History

SF Metropolitan FC was founded in 2016 by Francis Langbein with a focus on the storied 11v11 San Francisco Soccer Football League. The foundation of this team was inspired by Langbein’s college club soccer team Metropolitan FC in Vancouver, where he played for Adam Khanamelli, who founded UBC Metropolitan FC. Francis Langbein has played for various SFSFL, Bladium, and Norcal Athletics teams and coached for Mersey Youth Soccer Club, Soccer without Borders, and Norcal Athletics men's teams.[3]

The team was formed in 2016, but its first season was 2017. In the inaugural season, SF Metropolitan FC placed 5th out of 12 in the 1st Division, 7th on the US Soccer Pyramid, starting from 1 player.

In 2018, SF Metropolitan FC won the 1st Division of the SFSFL while breaking 10-year records in goals scored, goal differential, and points in a 21-2-1 Season.

In 2019, SF Metropolitan FC won the Majors division of the SFSFL, completing back-to-back championships and promotions for the first time in the league in the last ten years. SF Metropolitan FC also added a reserve team, which placed in the middle of the table in the First Division.

SF Metropolitan FC is built on a strong foundation of comradery, commitment, and purpose among the core players, who work hard and play hard, striking the perfect balance between high-level soccer and college life. The incorporation of such values resulted in SF Metropolitan FC becoming the most competitive soccer league in San Francisco,

The playing style and philosophy of SF Metropolitan FC are developed from UBC Metro, Spanish tiki-taka, Mersey Youth Soccer Clubs, and street soccer in South America.
