Sam Zietz (born April 6, 1968) is an American entrepreneur and investor. He is the founder and CEO of TouchSuite, a financial technology company based in Boca Raton, Florida, as well as the CEO of affiliated technology company GRUBBRR.[1]

Background

Zietz grew up in a neighborhood outside of Detroit before earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and later his L.L.M in Taxation from the New York University School of Law.[2][3] He then worked in the Business Tax Planning Department at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.[3] Afterward, he worked for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, and Flom, specializing in tax law and deal-making.[1][3] Zietz is married to his wife Sheila and they have 3 children: Rachel, Jordan, and Morgan.[1]

Career

As reported by Reuters, in 2007, Zietz was “angel investing...$500,000 chunks at a time” when a friend suggested he invest in movies.[4] He invested in “The Ten” and later “Harold.”

Zietz founded American Bancard, LLC, currently doing business as TouchSuite, in 2003.[1] He serves as CEO. TouchSuite “provides merchant technology products and services...[including] payroll management solutions, point-of-sale and payment processing, and client database systems.”[5][4][6]

In 2014, Florida Governor Rick Scott made an announcement applauding TouchSuite for choosing to double its workforce to 100 employees.[7][8]

Zietz has been an Orange Bowl committee member since 2013[9] and TouchSuite serves as the official payment processor of the Orange Bowl.[9][10] He is also a member of the Florida Council of 100, a group of Florida business leaders who advise the governor on policy.[11]

Additionally, Zietz is part of the Young President’s Organization (YPO) and a member of the Chief Executives Organization (CEO).[12]

In light of COVID-19, Zietz has promoted contactless technologies as solutions which can aid businesses like restaurants, retail stores, sports venues and amusement parks.[13][14][15][16][17][18]

Public appearances

On May 9, 2014, Sam Zietz gave a TEDx talk|TEDx Talk at TEDxBocaRaton.[19] His talk was entitled “Why entrepreneurs don’t need to fail.” Zietz used a sports analogy to illustrate how employees must bring different talents in order for a business to succeed.[20]

On November 17, 2015, Zietz testified in a hearing before the United States House of Representatives Committee on Small Business, recommending four actions the government could take to encourage entrepreneurship.[2]

In 2016, Zietz was on an investor panel for a Shark Tank style event at FAU Tech Runway in which eighteen middle and high school students pitched their businesses to receive capital for their projects.[21]

Personal life

Zietz and his wife Sheila have three children, Rachel, Jordan and Morgan[1]. At 12 years old, Rachel founded her own start-up, Gladiator Lacrosse, and at 15 she appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank.[22] The company sells strengthened lacrosse goals and training rebounders.[23] According to USA Today, Rachel prepared for Shark Tank with Sam Zietz’s friends who “acted as Sharks...in a mock version of the show.”[24]

Sam’s son Jordan also started a game console rental business called GameReef and All-Star eSports, a free eSports league.[1][25]

Recognition

Zietz and his companies have been recipients of awards and honors. TouchSuite has been on “Inc. Magazine’s ‘Inc. 500’ list of the fastest growing private companies in America.” TouchSuite was also named the #1 Fastest Growing Technology Company in South Florida by the South Florida Business Journal.[26][27]

Additionally, Zietz was recognized as EY's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015.[28]

Zietz has also been named one of the South Florida Business Journal’s Top 100 Power Leaders since 2015.[6][29] In 2019, Sam was honored as an “Ultimate CEO” by the South Florida Business Journal.[3]
