Saleha Wassel (Waheb) (born 4 of August 1960), is a humanitarian, poet, and artist. She was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. She moved to the Netherlands in 1989. She is best known for her Sufi poems and digital designs that are inspired by kaleidoscope digital design principles.https://waheb.eu/about/%7Cwaheb.eu Waheb is Wassel's pen name repeated multiple times in her works.

Saleha Waheb Wassel has finished 33 literary pieces including multiple collections of poetry, a short stories collection, and a book ofessays.https://waheb.eu/about/%7Cwaheb.eu Her body of work mostly entails Indian and Khorasanian classic style poetry. However, a number of her poems are written in the Modern Persian Poetry style.[1]

As well as being a poet and an author, Saleha is also a professional painter. In 1978, one of her paintings was awarded first place in an Inter-Asia competition. Moreover, she has created more than hundreds of digital designs that entail elements of mystic poetry.[2]

Early life and education

Saleha Wassel spent her childhood and early adult life in Afghanistan. Her earliest interest in poetry was intrigued by her father who often asked her to read poetry when she was quite young. Soon after the poetry sessions with her father, Saleha started writing poems herself. These poems were praised by her teachers and other students. As a result, a number of her early works are published in Atfal Magazine.[3]

Saleha majored in Business and Marketing and graduated with a Master's degree from Kabul University. After migrating to the Netherlands, she continued studying in different fields namely nursing, computer sciences, and business administration.[4] In 2020, she obtained her Master's degree in Persian Literature from Tehran University. As of 2020, she has started a Ph.D. in Persian Literature at Tehran University.

Professional life and achievements

Saleha Wassel's most important work is known as The Lost Pearl. It entails Sufi poems as well as romantic and lyric elements.[5]

Throughout the years, Waheb Wassel has participated in different cultural associations including the Roshan association, AKIS (Austria), Banu Magazine, UvAviN (Netherlands), Afghan Pen Association, Sabzmanesh (Netherlands). In 2012, she co-founded Ofoundation, a family-oriented non-profit organization. As a result of one of the projects at Ofoundation, an online Dari dictionary (Qamoose Kabire Aghanistan) was created. Wassel actively writes on different websites such as Afghan-German Online, 24Sahat, Jame Ghor, Guftoman, Noor, Rawzana. She has partaken in a great number of artistic, Afghan Diaspora, and cultural events all over Europe.[6]
