Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SCB) (Ngân hàng Thương mại cổ phần Sài Gòn) is a commercial joint bank operating in the Vietnam financial system. It was established in 1992 under the name Que Do Commercial Joint Stock Bank. In 2003, the Bank was officially renamed Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SCB). SCB has 239 banking outlets in 28 major cities of Vietnam with over 6,700 employees.[1]

History

Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SCB) is a consolidation of three banks namely Que Do Commercial Joint Stock Bank, Tan Viet Commercial Joint Stock Bank, and First Joint Stock Commercial Bank.[3]

Que Do Commercial Joint Stock Bank was established under the Operating License No. 00018/NH-GP issued by the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam. Within a year, the bank procured the Establishment License No. 308/GP-UB issued by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. In 2003, Que Do Commercial Joint Stock Bank was officially renamed Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SCB).

In 2010, the charter capital of SCB reached VND 4,184,795,040,000 and the total assets hiked 30% reaching a value of VND 77,985 billion in 2011. The bank presently has an operation network spread across the entire country, consisting of 230 banking outlets.[4]

Tan Viet Commercial Joint Stock Bank was established in 1992 in accordance with Banking License No. 0164/NH-GP issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. In 2006 Tan Viet Commercial Joint Stock Bank was officially renamed Pacific Commercial Joint Stock Bank. In the global financial crisis of 2008, Pacific Commercial Joint Stock Bank was changed to be Vietnam Tin Nghia Commercial Joint Stock Bank.

In 2011, the charter capital of Vietnam Tin Nghia Bank reached VND3,399,000,000,000, and the total assets hiked by 26% reaching a value of VND 58,939 billion. The bank presently has an operation network spread across the entire country, consisting of 83 banking outlets.

The First Joint Stock Commercial Bank was established in 1993 in accordance with Operating License No. 0033/NH-GP issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. Within a year, the bank procured the Establishment License No. 534/GP-UB issued by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. In the context of operating according to the legal framework for commercial banks in Vietnam, Ficombank was officially established and came into operation on 02 August 1993.[5]

In 2011, Ficombank’s charter capital reached VND3,000,000,000,000, and the total assets hiked by 128% reaching a value of VND17,100 billion. The bank presently has an operational network of 26 outlets, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and some other big cities.
