Sébastien Lépine (born July 1, 1974) is a Canadian cellist.[1]

Biography

Sébastien Lépine first studied with Micheal Kilburn at the Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières (1984-1995), Antonio Lysy at McGill University (1995-1996) and with Janos Starker at Indiana University (1996-1998).[2][3][4][5] He currently plays on a J.B. Vuillaume cello and an E. Sartory bow on loan from CANIMEX.[1][5][6][7]

Sébastien has released several recordings and performed in concerts across Canada, as well as in the United States, Mexico, Italy and France.[1][4][8][9] He has performed with the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, the Camerata Orquesta de Bellas Artes de Mexico, the Orchestre philharmonique de Chihuahua, the Orchestre de la francophonie, the Orchestre de chambre Appassionata and the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville.[4][7]

Teaching

Sébastien Lépine has been teaching for many year:

He has been teaching in the music program at Les Estacades Academy since 1999, where he provides classes in chamber music, string orchestra, symphony orchestra, and choir.[6][10]

He has been a professor of cello at the Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières since 2012, giving lessons in cello, chamber music and orchestra.[6][11]

Compositions

Sébastien Lépine supports new music, and thus the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra by composer Gilles Bellemare was dedicated to him, and Sébastien Lépine premiered it in 2009.[12]

He has composed several works, some for electric cello, and another in four movements for cello and string quartet (2014 - Imagination; solo cello and string quartet).[13][14]
