Shin Ryu-jin (born April 17, 2001), known mononymously as Ryujin, is a South Korean rapper, singer, dancer, and actress. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment, in 2019.[1][2] Outside of her music career, she made her acting debut in the 2017 movie The King as a bit part.[3]

Early life

She was born on April 17, 2001, in Seoul, South Korea.[4][5] She attended Hanlim Multi Art School, joining the Dance Practice Department, alongside bandmate Chaeryeong, and graduated on February 7, 2020.[6]

Career

2017: Pre-debut

When Ryujin was in middle school, she went to a Got7 concert, where she caught a JYP Entertainment staff member's attention who instantly asked for her phone number when she was in the bathroom.[7][8] Then she joined the company in 2015, where she was a trainee for 4 years before officially debuting.

In 2017, Ryujin participated in the reality survival programs MixNine and Stray Kids. She also featured in BTS's "Love Yourself" highlight reel alongside groupmate Yuna and appeared in the political crime drama film, The King.

2019–present: Debut with Itzy

On February 12, 2019, Ryujin officially debuted as a member of Itzy, with the release of their digital single album, It'z Different led by the single "Dalla Dalla".[9]

Philanthropy

On April 12, 2022, Ryujin donated 50 million KRW (approximately $37,898 USD) to "The Promise," a corporation that helps the victims of the forest fire that happened on the east coast of Gangwon-do.[10] On February 14, 2023, Ryujin sent to "The Promise" another donation of 50 million KRW in support of those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.[11]
