Roland Krueger (born September 30, 1965) is a German industrial designer, business executive, entrepreneur, and polar explorer..[1] He is a well-known figure in the automotive and business communities, having worked with major brands such as BMW, Infiniti, and Mitsubishi.[2]

Krueger currently serves as the CEO of the Dyson Group of Companies and a member of the board of Dyson Holdings. Krueger's extensive experience and leadership are widely respected.[3]

In addition to his business career, Krueger is also a polar explorer, having achieved the feat of being the first German to ski to the geographic South Pole solo and unsupported. Due to his accomplishments, he was inducted into the prestigious Explorers Club in 2017.[4]

Early life and education

Krueger was born in Munich, Germany, and grew up in a small town north of the city. He graduated with a degree in industrial design from the University of Applied Science in Munich in 1992 and later earned a master's in business administration from INSEAD in Fontainebleau in 1998.[5]

Career

Krueger began his career as an automotive designer at Mitsubishi Motors, and he was later selected as an initial team member of the smart car joint venture between Swatch and Mercedes-Benz.[6]

Krueger then moved into management, starting as a senior vice president and regional head of operations for the German market at BMW Group, where he worked for 15 years.[7]

In 2015, he joined INFINITI, a major division of Nissan responsible for their premium cars, where he served as chairman and global president of INFINITI Motor Company till 2019 and as corporate officer of NISSAN Motor Corporation. He also served as a member of the board for Nissan China Investment Corporation and the DONGFENG INFINITI joint venture.[8][9][10]

In 2019, Krueger was recruited to Dyson and in 2020, he was appointed as the CEO.[11][12][13][14]

Polar explorer

In addition to his business career, Krueger is also a polar explorer. He is the first German to ski to the geographic South Pole solo and unsupported, having accomplished this feat twice, in 2005 and 2013. He has also crossed the Greenland Ice Shield on skis in 2002. His book about his Antarctic Expedition, "ALLEIN ZUM SUEDPOL" (English: "Solo to the South Pole"), has been selected to be in the collection of the German National Library.[15][16]

Personal life

Krueger is married to Claudine Chan-Krueger and has lived and worked in Germany, US, France, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore throughout his career. He is also a dedicated long-distance runner and cross-country skier, having participated in the Marathon des Sables ultramarathon in the Moroccan Sahara desert in 2000 and the World Corporate Games in 1996.
