Revant Himatsingka, popularly known as Foodpharmer, is an entrepreneur, author, and social media influencer.

Coming from a finance background, Himatsingka transitioned into a role of a social media influencer, engaging with the public on critical discussions surrounding the nutritional value of popular food products. His critiques aim at debunking misleading marketing claims made by major Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies.[1][2][3]

Education and career

Himatsingka is an alumnus of the NYU Stern School of Business where he pursued a double major in Finance and Management [4][5]. Initially on a finance career track, he worked on Wall Street before deciding to diverge from this path [5][2][6]. This period also saw the inception of his authorial venture, resulting in the publication of 'Selfienomics', a self-help comedy book published by Bloomsbury, which achieved the status of an Amazon Top 100 Bestseller in its first week of pre-order.[7]

Following his initial career and authorial venture, Himatsingka moved towards health and wellness advocacy, adopting the moniker 'Foodpharmer'. His transition was marked by a rebranded online presence, a shift to the 'Food Pharmer' persona, which garnered a significant following on Instagram.[8][9]

Criticism of Bournvita and other FMCG brands

In a now-deleted video posted on the 1st of April, Himatsingka called out Bournvita, a popular beverage, for its high sugar content and misleading marketing as a healthy product.[10] [11]

Mondelez India, the parent company of Bournvita, rejected the claims made by Himatsingka regarding the drink and sent a legal notice to him.

This resulted in him taking down the video from his social media and later posting an apology to the company in response.[12]

Following this, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to Mondelez to withdraw all 'misleading' ads under Section 13(1)(j) of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act after receiving a complaint that alleged that Bournvita had substances that could cause 'harmful impact' to the health of children. [12]

Besides Bournvita, Himatsingka has also called out other brands like Tang, Sting, Kissan, Maggi as well as bread brands in India, on his social media. [13]
