Raween Kanishka ( born 15 August 1991), is a Sri Lankan actor and singer.[1][2][3] He is a recipient of the most popular teledrama actor award in Raigam Tele'es, Sumathi Awards and SLIM-Nielsen Peoples Awards several times. He gained widespread fame in the country with his role "Anuhas" in Deweni Inima.[4][5][6]

Early Life and Career

Raween Kanishka was born on 15 August 1991 in Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka. His parents are former government officers and he has a younger brother and sister. Raween Kanishka completed his education at Kuliyapitiya Central College.

After winning the 1st Runner Up in Derana Dream Star Season 04, Kanishka participated in various reality television programs conducted by TV Derana. Namely, Derana Star Challenge Season 02, Derana Star City Seasons 01 & 02. With the participation of Derana Star City, he was praised for his ability for dancing and Kanishka was an indispensable person in the teams of both seasons. Kanishka formed a band, The Aryanz, in 2015 and he's the main vocalist of the band. He released his first music video "Dannawada Oya" in 2014 and it was nominated for the most popular music video award at Derana Music Video Awards in 2015. He has performed a number of songs including "Kada Halena Tharuwak", "Mage Thanikama", "Maga Haruna Mata Wasanthaya", "Aruthak Nathi Lowata", "Nomiyena Minisa", "Ranwan Nuwan", "Sadathanika Wu Adare", "Visiri Thibuna", "Sadakalika Wasanthaya Numba".[7] He participated as a singer for TV programs Sihinayaki Ra on Sri Lanka Rupavahini (TV) Corporation and Ma Nowana Mama on TV Derana Raween started his acting career from the drama Deweni Inima which telecasts on TV Derana. He plays an innocent and courageous young boy called ‘Anuhas Fernando’ who is an advanced level student and an upcoming cricket player. This character has become very popular among audiences of all ages. He won the Most Popular Actor Awards at 23rd Sumathi Awards, 15th and 16th Raigam Tele'es and 14th and 15th SLIM-Nielsen Peoples Awards.[8][9][10][11] Raween has participated in many overseas concerts[12][13], and also Raween Kanishka is an brand ambassador of Oppo in Sri Lanka.[14][15][16]
