Rami Bitar is a Lebanese serial entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist.[1] He currently serves as CEO of Capital Partners and Tawfeer International and is a managing partner in Bitar International,[2] Under his leadership, Bitar Group, a seven decades-old company has outgrown multiple businesses and has offices in well over 18 countries.[3] Bitar is noted for his value investing and philanthropy activities to help youth and fight hunger.[4]

Born in Lebanon, Bitar was born in a wealthy family with several establishments in the Middle East.[5] He developed an interest in business and was inclined toward international trading. Bitar is part of the United Nations Global Compact SDG council. His companies are leaders in developing sustainably with a focus on SDGS 2, 4, 5 and 7 relating to fighting hunger, providing education, and helping the youth and being environmentally conscious by using green energy and reducing waste.[6][7]

Bitar has over two decades of experience in the FMCG industry, primarily in trading, branding, and distributing in the MENA region and Europe.[8] Under his leadership, Tawfeer International has become a leading retailer in Lebanon and the Middle East, with over 30 branches (and counting) spread across the country.[9]

Education

Bitar holds a Bachelor of Business administration with a double emphasis in Management and Finance from LAU. In 2006 he enrolled in the American University of Beirut, from where he acquired an Executive Master of Business Administration. He was also a member of the General Management Executive Program at INSEAD and has learned Business Strategies and Performance with Carlos Ghosn at USEK.

Career

Bitar began working when he was 18 years old while pursuing his BBA.[10] He began working for Bitar International, which is known for supplying a varied array of high-quality food products ranging from everyday necessities to delectable pleasures.[11] Some of the brands by Bitar include Wellplus (personal hygeine), Maestro (coffee brand), Krix (cereals & chips), Deroni (rice brand), (rise, pulses & conserves), and Vimax (sanitary and hygiene products).[12][13] The Bitar group, under the leadership of Rami Bitar and his brother, becomes the biggest rice company in the Middle East and Central Eastern Europe.[14] It also teamed with one of the most recognized worldwide law firms, Mayer Brown, in a significant stride toward achieving U.S. and E.U. compliance standards in early 2022.[15][16][17]

Tawfeer is a retail chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores, which is spread across Lebanon and has over 22 stores in the country.[18][19] Under his leadership Tawfeer became the first retailer to start a discounter concept in Lebanon and shortly, Bitar aims to increase that number of stores to over 100.[20][21][22]

Philanthropy

Education

Bitar believes in the power of education and its role in developing community leaders; he pledges to assist, along with Tawfeer Supermarkets, around 4000 public school kids each year with their schooling and stationery requirements.[23]

Sports

Bitar contributes to the community in several ways, including sports. Through Tawfeer Supermarkets, Rami Bitar currently sponsors Al Safa Club for the youth, which trains adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18.[24] Its current sponsorship base covers around 120 highly talented kids players selected based on merit and provided with a free training package that includes international coaches, trainers, and support staff coming in periodically from the Netherlands. The company also provides the needed financial support for the players when participating in international tournaments to expose them to international levels of play and offer a confidence boost to motivate them to improve. Furthermore, their nutritional needs are being taken care of, along with specialists who help their players stay in optimal shape and teach them the game's best practices.[25]

Humanitarian

With the economic situation in Lebanon affecting the population, Bitar went above and beyond by partnering with the UN Global Compact program to ensure the community's nutritional needs are well met. Using his experience in food provision and security, Bitar took an extra step to distribute 10,000 monthly food parcels to families selected strictly objectively and fairly.
