Rachel Lehmann (born October 1, 1959) is a Swiss art dealer and gallerist, best known as the co-founder of the contemporary art gallery, Lehmann Maupin, which has locations in New York City, Seoul, London, and Palm Beach.[1][2] She plays a significant role in promoting contemporary artists from around the world, establishing their presence in the international art market.[3][4][5]

Early life and education

Rachel Lehmann was born in Asmara, Ethiopia in 1959.[6] Her passion for art developed at a young age, fueled by her exposure to the vibrant art scene in Europe.[7] She pursued her academic studies at the University of Geneva, where she earned a degree in Art History and Cultural Anthropology.[8]

Career

Founding of Lehmann Maupin Gallery

In 1996, Rachel Lehmann, along with her business partner David Maupin, founded the art gallery, Lehmann Maupin, in New York City.[9] The gallery quickly gained recognition for its dynamic program, representing a diverse group of emerging and established contemporary artists.[3] Lehmann Maupin is known for showcasing innovative and thought-provoking works across various media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and video installations.[3][10]
