Przemysław Wojciech Wachulak (born October 14, 1979 in Międzyrzec Podlaski) - professor of technical sciences, specialist in the generation and application of X-ray, prof. dr hab. eng., Colonel of the Polish Land Forces, full professor and Rector (academia) commandant of the Military University of Technology in Warsaw (WAT)[1].

Vitae

A graduate of the Military University of Technology, which he graduated with 1st place in 2004 at the Faculty of Electronics, in the field of electronics and optoelectronics, as well as post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Cybernetics of the Military University of Technology in the field of European integration and international security[2]. He started his professional military service in 2004 in the 3rd Road and Bridge Regiment JW3136 in Chełmno as a platoon commander. In the years 2005–2008 he was a PhD student at the Colorado State University in the United States, obtaining a Doctorate|doctoral degree in 2008. In 2009, he started military service at the Military University of Technology at the Institute of Optoelectronics as, successively, senior engineer, assistant, assistant professor (adjunct), associate professor and full professor. In 2013, he obtained habilitation in physics at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw [3]. By the decision of the President of the Poland|Republic of Poland, on July 30th, 2018, he was awarded the title of professor of technical sciences [4].

Scientific activities

In his publications [5] [6] [7] he addresses issues related to the development of new laser-plasma sources for the generation of extreme ultraviolet and X-ray|soft X-ray radiation for applications including nanoimaging, nanotechnology, microscopy, holography, Absorption spectroscopy|absorption and optical spectroscopy Optical coherence tomography|coherence tomography, radiobiology. Member of national and international scientific societies, incl. Polish Young Academy [8] of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee of Metrology and Scientific Apparatus of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee of Electronics and Telecommunications of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the American Chemical Society ACS [9], the Polish Society of Synchrotron Radiation PTPS [10]. He is also a thematic editor for the Applied Optics [11] journal since 2017. During his scientific career, he was a principal investigator of scientific projects, incl. from the National Science Centre (Poland)|National Science Center and the National Centre for Research and Development|National Center for Research and Development (LIDER program). He was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Polish Science (2009–2011) and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Poland)|Ministry of Science and Higher Education (2011–2014).

Prizes and awards

He has received many awards for his scientific and military activities, incl. R&D 100 award [12] (USA, 2008), Young Scientist Medal (2014) [13], Silver Medal for Merit for National Defense (2014), Meritorious Third Class Soldier of the Republic of Poland (2018), Silver Medal of the Armed Forces in the Homeland Service (2018) and the award of the Minister of National Defense (2013 and 2019).
