Prabhath Mannapperuma (born May 15, 1993) is a Sri Lankan Social Entrepreneur, Tech Evangelist. Mannapperuma is the founder of STEMUP Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization that facilitates STEM careers and is known for taking initiatives to make kids more familiar with problem-solving skills, design thinking skills.[1][2][3]

Mannapperuma has gained much recognition across the country for his social initiative via SSTEMUP Educational Foundation.[4] He is the recipient of the South Asian Youth Award, TheirWorld Global Youth Skills Champion, and Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, Scholarship Awardee.[5][6]

Early life and education

Mannapperuma was born on May 15, 1993, in Sri Lanka. He studied at St. Joseph Vaz College, Sri Lanka, from where he graduated with an advanced high school graduation degree in Biology.

In 2014, Mannapperuma enrolled in SLIIT to pursue a bachelor’s degree course in Information Technology with a specialization in Computer Software Engineering. After graduating in 2018, he entered Staffordshire University, the United Kingdom, in 2019 to pursue MSC. with a specialization in Business Computing.

Career

Mannapperuma started his career in 2016 when he founded The STEMUp Educational Foundation.[7] It is a non-profit organization that aims at inspiring and engaging students to become interested in pursuing STEM careers. Mannapperuma established this NPO to help aspiring people become innovators and problem solvers by facilitating multiple programs to make kids more familiar with problem-solving skills, design thinking skills. This NPO is constantly striving to help students pursue higher education and careers in IT, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subject matters. Micro:bit Sri Lanka User Group (SLUG) is one of the most successful programmes by the foundation.[8] This initiative by Mannapperuma was recognized at the SLT Zero One Awards 2020 for its programs that empower the youth with IT education.[9][10]
