Peter Downing is a Canadian politician and the former leader of Wexit Canada.[1] Downing founded Wexit Canada in the aftermath of Justin Trudeau's re-election in the 2019 Canadian federal election.[1] Downing is also a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, though he left the force following a conditional discharge for allegedly uttering threats against his ex-wife in 2009.[2] Downing stepped down as leader of Wexit Canada in June and was replaced by interim Leader and former Conservative Party of Canada Member of parliament Jay Hill.[3]

Downing was previously a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party of Canada in the 2015 Canadian federal election.[4] Downing created two organizations, Western alienation Fights Back and Saskatchewan Fights Back, both of which served as vehicles for his List of active separatist movements in North America activism.[5] Through this work he became affiliated with the Prairie Freedom Movement, later becoming their spokesperson.[6]

Promotion of conspiracy theories

Downing is reported to have promoted multiple Conspiracy theory including accusations that Justin Trudeau left his teaching position over sexual misconduct and that the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation was secretly Pizzagate conspiracy theory.[4]
