Heavy Mover is a heavy-duty tractor unit manufactured by a Vilshofen-based truck specialist company, Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH. The tractor was specially built for oil fields and military, but can be applied to other applications like heavy haulage or road train[1].

Specification

Heavy Mover is the first product under the Paul brand name by the company. The company is well known for its truck and tractor conversions, which are mostly associated with Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle is based on a Mercedes-Benz tractor chassis and adopts the same cabin as actros powered by euro3 and 5 V8 diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz capable of producing 570 to 650 hp and 2,400 to 3,000 torque. The tractor is only available in 6x6 configuration and the transmission options are from Allison and Mercedes-Benz, both in automatic gearbox.

The tractor is offered with 27 ton dry weight, while the company offers up to 80 ton of dry weight unit for appropriate applications. The tractor is set to work in harsh conditions from -25 to 50 degrees Celsius temperature with extra package from the company the unit can deal with -40 degrees Celsius outside temperature to support these levels of conditions the unit is equipped with 875/65 R29 set of tyres. An option for a fifth wheel coupling is also available from the manufacturer, which can hold weight up to 50 tons[2].

The payload that the tractor can handle is 220 tons and a 250 tonne gross combination weight in tractor trailer configuration or used as ballast tractor to tow a suitable hydraulic modular trailer.[3]

Application

Rosenbauer BUFFALO extreme

Buffalo extreme is a super heavy-duty rescue truck from a Leonding, Austria based company which spacializes in fire engine, Airport crash tenders and other emergency vehicles. This version of tractor was built in 2015 based fully on Paul heavy mover 6x6.[4]

Powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine producing 570hp and 2,700 Nm of torque, supported by an Allison 4700 P automatic transmission. This unit can weigh up to 68 tons with a 33,000 litter water tank fully loaded. Rosenbauer has customized parts like aluminium body, cabin with crew capacity of 5, searchlights on the front side, Electric siren on cab roof, 100 W, LED light bar on cab roof and extinguishing system to suite the application.[5]

With a 33,000 litter water tank and output of 6,500 ltr/min. at 10 bar from in house pressure pump. A Controller Area Network system is also offered to monitor warning device, scene lighting, monitoring, engine data, chassis tank indicator, water tank indicator, pump and other data of the vehicle.[6]
