Otakar Diblík (August 19 1929, Brno – 12. February 1999, Prague) was a czech industrial designer.

Life

From 1948 to 1952, Diblík studied architecture and civil engineering at the Technical University of Dr. E. Beneš (now Brno University of Technology). However, already at school, he began to devote himself to design. He began his work at Karosa Vysoké Mýto, where he collaborated at the design of bus Škoda 706 RTO.[1] He designed notably interior of De Luxe version for Expo 58 in Brussels. Since 1959 he worked at Tatra, where he was together with other designers working on the project of modernisation of Tatra 603. Later, when was this project moved to the developing department of Tatra in Bratislava he collaborated with this team.[2] However, none of his works at Tatra Trucks were realised and mass produced. Then he created design of Electric Locomotive 230 with body made from laminate. His other works for czechoslovak companies include design of interior of Let L-200 Morava aircraft[3] and design of Zetor Crystal tractor. In 1968 he emigrated and settled in Italy. From the following year he worked as a designer at the studio of his friend Rodolfo Bonetto, who helped him after emmigration. In 1983 he even became the chief designer of the studio.[4] From 1990 he worked as the head of the design studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He died of heart failure in the studio of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 1999.[5]
