Oreste Crisostomi with the cast of Out of Focus. Oreste Crisostomi, is an Italian filmmaker[1][2] and visual anthropologist[3]. He is most notable as the writer and artistic director of critically acclaimed documentary Out of focus (Fuori fuoco)[4].

Personal life

He was born and raised in Terni, Italy. Since 2011 he has been carrying out constant cultural activities with the inmates of Terni penitentiary[5] where he made the documentary Out of focus[6]

Career

He made his debut as a director and screenwriter in 2010 with the feature film Alice[7], a film distributed by Medusa Film[8] and previewed at the Flaiano Prizes in Pescara[9]. Since 2011 he has collaborated in the organization of the People and Religions – Terni Film Festival Popoli e Religioni in Terni, in the 2013 edition he was appointed artistic director of the festival[10]. In 2014 and 2015 he was executive assistant for the production of the film Asino, directed by Anatoly Vasiliev. In 2018 his collective documentary project Out of focus, made with the inmates of Terni Prison and produced by Rai Cinema, was premiered at the International Journalism Festival[11], screened at the Chamber of Deputies (Italy)[12] and broadcast on Rai 1[13]. In 2021 he made, as a screenwriter and director, the documentary Give Me the End You're at[14], an AMNC production - Associazione National Museum of Cinema with the collaboration of the Irish NGO Cope Galway.
