Omar Mahmoud Al-Jarrah (In Arabic: عمرمحمود الجراح) (born November 1, 1967) is a Jordanian annexation of the West Bank academic and Artificial intelligence scholar.[1][2][3] He is also a professor of computer engineering and a researcher in intelligent systems, robotics, wireless networks and cloud computing. He is a former President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology.[4][5][6][7][8][9]
Biography and career life
He was born and raised in the Al Mazar al Shamali in the Irbid Governorate,[10][11] northern Jordan, graduated and was awarded a bachelor's degree in computer engineering with honors from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1991 before traveling to the United States and obtaining a doctorate degree from Ohio State University in 1996.[1][12]
He held leadership positions as he was Dean of the College of Information technology|Information Technology, Assistant and Vice-President, and then President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology and President of Amman Arab University and he is currently Vice President of the Arab Open University.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
His dismissal in 2017 from the presidency of the University of Science and Technology was an issue of public opinion in the Jordanian academic community.[19][7][20][21][22][23][24]
Awards and notable achievements
- The Arab Pioneers and Innovators Award in the field of information technology 2008.[25]
- Raising the Jordan University of Science and Technology’s ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings|Times World Ranking 200 degrees forward to rank first locally and third among the best Arab universities.[5][26][27][28][9]
- Seventy research papers published in international specialized, refereed and classified journals or proceedings of refereed and specialized international conferences.[29][30]
