Oksana Mukha (born September 1, 1964, in Lviv, Ukrainian SSR) is a Ukrainian fashion designer and entrepreneur, widely recognized as the founder of the international bridal and evening wear brand OKSANA MUKHA.[1] Beginning her career in the early 1990s, Mukha developed a design language rooted in classical European aesthetics, intricate hand embroidery, and couture-level craftsmanship. Her collections often feature lace, crystal embellishments, and finely tailored silhouettes, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern bridal trends.[2] Over the decades, she has expanded her brand from a small local workshop into a global enterprise with distribution networks across more than 70 countries, including France, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia.[3]

Mukha’s designs have been worn by a diverse and high-profile clientele, including members of the Ukrainian presidential family,[4] the French royal family, the imperial household of Japan, international film actors, public figures, and opera performers.[5] Her work has been presented at major fashion exhibitions such as Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week and Mélange de Blanc in New York,[6] and was notably showcased at the Louvre during Swarovski’s 115th anniversary celebration.[7] The brand has been profiled in fashion publications including Vogue,[8] Elle,[9] Collezioni Haute Couture, and Harper’s Bazaar.[10] As both creative director and business leader, Mukha has played a significant role in promoting Ukrainian fashion on the global stage, earning industry recognition for her contributions to design, innovation, and international expansion.

Early life and education

Mukha was born in Lviv, Ukraine, and developed a passion for visual arts from an early age. In 1985, she enrolled at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, where she studied textile design. Her academic training contributed to the refinement of her signature design aesthetic.[11]

Career

Mukha began her professional journey in the early 1990s, a period marked by Ukraine's transition to independence and a shifting economic landscape. In 1991, she launched her first collection of bridal dresses from a modest home-based workshop in Lviv. Initially working independently, she designed, cut, and sewed each gown herself, catering to local clients. Her growing reputation for precision and aesthetic elegance soon led to increased demand, prompting her to move operations to a rented studio. In 1994, she formally registered her business under the name Galvestmoda, establishing a foundation for what would become one of Ukraine’s most internationally recognized fashion brands.[12]

Throughout the 1990s, Mukha’s designs gained traction within Ukraine and neighboring countries. In 2000, she opened a flagship salon in Lviv spanning over 400 square meters, which at the time was one of the largest bridal boutiques in the region. This space not only served as a showroom but also as a production and design hub. The early 2000s marked the brand’s foray into international markets, beginning with expansion into Germany and France. In 2004, OKSANA MUKHA began exporting gowns to Western Europe. In 2006, the brand entered the United States market through a distribution agreement with California-based Diamond Bridal Gallery. That same year, Mukha also expanded into Italy (Modena) and Kazakhstan (Almaty), establishing the brand’s presence in both Western Europe and Central Asia.[13]

The pace of international growth accelerated in 2007 and 2008. The brand entered markets in South Africa (Pretoria) and Lithuania (Kaunas), and in 2008, Mukha inaugurated the first OKSANA MUKHA Paris boutique. A defining moment in the designer’s career occurred in October 2009, when the brand was selected to participate in Swarovski’s 115th-anniversary celebration at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Out of more than 150 global fashion houses, OKSANA MUKHA was one of only a few selected to present designs on the runway. Five dresses were showcased at the event, including the “Crystal Swan” gown an intricate bridal dress embellished with hand-stitched crystal embroidery which was later exhibited in the Swarovski showroom at the Louvre.[14]

As the brand gained visibility, it continued to establish retail and wholesale partnerships globally. By 2012, Oksana Mukha’s son, Vsevolod Yalovy, joined the company as Executive Director, supporting the brand’s operational growth, while her daughter, Kateryna Yalova, assumed the role of Creative Director, collaborating with Mukha on new collections. Together, they structured the brand to scale both design output and logistical infrastructure, which enabled wider distribution in Asia, North America, and the Middle East.[15] By 2020, the brand reported a presence in over 70 countries, with showrooms and partner offices in cities such as Paris, Prague, Toronto, Miami, Melbourne, Tokyo, New York, Dubai, and Warsaw.

In 2023, the OKSANA MUKHA brand presented its collection "Attraverso dei tempi" at the Mélange de Blanc exhibition in New York,[16] reflecting a mix of classic and contemporary design elements. The following year, in 2024, the brand launched its "Pearl" collection, inspired by the Rothschild villa on the French Riviera.[17] This collection debuted at Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, followed by a showcase at the National Bridal Market in Chicago. These international appearances marked the continuation of Mukha's strategy of blending Ukrainian cultural elements with global design trends, establishing her brand as a consistent presence on the international bridal fashion circuit.

Throughout her career, Mukha has remained deeply involved in the artistic direction of the brand while also overseeing its global operations. Her work is regularly featured in leading fashion publications such as Collezioni Haute Couture, Sposa Book, Wedding Magazine, Elle Spain, and Vogue, affirming her brand’s position in the global bridal fashion industry.
