Obscure Mantra (sometimes abbreviated as OM) is a Canadian Deathcore / Metalcore band from Asbestos, Québec, Canada, formed in 2018. The band's current lineup consists of lead vocalist Luka Surtees, rhythm guitarist Étienne Dionne, lead guitarist Alexandre Larrivée, bassist Patrick Allard and drummer Raphaël Boisvert-Nault. They deliver a powerful Deathcore with a lot of texture and rhythmic variation.[1]

History

Formation and Blood Of The Kings (2018–Present)

The band was formed in April 2018 in Asbestos, Qc, Canada by Étienne Dionne, Alexandre Larrivée and Luka Surtees. At first, they wrote some Metalcore demo then posted it on YouTube as a project. Seeing it was gaining attention in their local area[2], they decided to push it further. Dionne came up with the band name as a reference to the path and spiritual way of a musician journey. A mantra is always necessary no matter what sacrifices or path chosen, bad or good.

Later in the same year, after a lot of unsuccessful attempts to find a drummer that fits the band, Raphaël Boisvert-Nault (Ex vocalist of A Thousand Year) joined the band as a drummer. It was the turning point in their road to achieving quality recording in the studio and also getting a nice rendering on stage! Then followed up Patrick Allard (Ex Bassist of A Thousand Year) to the bass.

In early 2019, they started self-recording their debut EP The band then traded their Metalcore sound to become a Deathcore band. On November 1st 2019 came their first EP Blood Of The Kings. They also made a music video for the song Hellspawn. Then came the music video for the song Blood Of The Kings on March 1st 2020.

The band is currently in studio recording their first LP set to debut around 2021.
