Norma Jean Lowe (born February 13, 1967), known professionally as Norma Jean, is an American actress and television star with roles across many genres. She is also a comedienne, theater performer, and a star in podcasts and on TikTok. Her most recent performance is as “Vera” in the Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, debuting in 2023. Killers of the Flower Moon is an HCA Award nominee for “Most Anticipated Film”.

Early Life & Background

Norma Jean was born in Camden, New Jersey, and raised in Watertown, New York. She is a domestic abuse survivor and is now an outspoken advocate against domestic abuse. Her life story is captured in the award winning crime-drama based screenplay, "American Woman: the Norma Jean Story" by B.R. Tatalovic, Kristy Winter McCaw, and Norma Jean. [1]

Career

After high school, Norma Jean started her acting career at a Community Theater and within two years, she was cast in leading roles in four major productions with the Little Theater of Watertown (New York).[2] She has performed in several supporting roles on television and films. In comedy, Norma Jean performs as her most popular character where she parodies as her opinionated and sometimes offensive mother “Smokin’ Bev”. Norma Jean is compared to other rubber-faced character actresses such as Carol Burnett, Imogene Coca, Vicki Lawrence, and Lily Tomlin. She is known to use several dialects, to include Cockney, French, Minnesota/Wisconsin, New Yorker, Puerto Rican, Southern, Russian, Irish, German, and British.

Stage

"Norma Jean excelled both as a leading actress in "The Book of Liz" and in support for "Blithe Spirit."[4][5]

“Blithe Spirit” by Noel Coward: “Dan Henry and Norma Jean play the writer’s guests, a doctor and his wife, the latter injecting hilarious traits (such as a raucous horse laugh) into her straightly written character.” ~Daily Pilot 09/15/11[6]

"The Book of LIz" by Elizabeth Donderstock: "Norma Jean beautifully elicits memories of rubber-faced TV comediennes past, from Imogene Coca to Carol Burnett. Her performance is alternately heartwarming and knee-slapping in a richly full-blooded interpretation." ~New York Daily News 02/10/11[7]
