Nicole Antoinette Hayles (married name McGowan, born January 6, 1980) is a Jamaican Television News Anchor, Corporate Communication Executive, and socialite.[1][2] She currently resides in Kingston, Jamaica, where she is a nightly news anchor for Mello TV Evening News, which is owned and operated by Cornwall Broadcasting Company Limited, and a Corporate Communications Executive for the Government of Jamaica.[3]

Career

From 2002 to 2006 she worked as a broadcast journalist at CVM TV,[4] where she became famous as one of the station's youngest on-air news anchors. She was also one of the hosts for CVM's flagship morning program CVM At Sunrise. Nicole also established herself as a seasoned journalist which earned her commendation for her work by the Press Association of Jamaica.

From 2008 to 2010 she worked as a reporter/producer and news anchor at Television Jamaica, where she developed her prowess for covering live events. She is noted for her live coverage of the 2008 People's National Party's Presidential election[5] between former Prime Minister of Jamaica Portia Simpson-Miller and her rival Dr. Peter Phillips for the leadership of the PNP.

In 2014 Nicole won second place in the Jamaica Broiler's Fair Play Awards for the documentary Whipped In the Name of Discipline[6] which was produced for the Office of the Children's Advocate by independent production house Panache Entertainment.[7]

Nicole joined Mello TV in 2020 as host for the station's Decision 2020: Mello TV Poll. The program received widespread accolades and is credited for being one of the most reliable and credible polls which predicted the outcome of the 2020 Jamaican General Election.[8] In 2022 Nicole again hosted the station's Mello TV Poll which assessed the Jamaican government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic among other issues of national importance.[9] In April 2022 Nicole took up duties as news anchor for Mello TV Evening News.

Since 2006 Nicole has worked as a Corporate Communication Executive in varying capacities throughout the Jamaican public service. She has worked at the National Environment and Planning Agency[10], Early Childhood Commission, Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), Office of the Children's Advocate[11][12][13][14], and National Land Agency.[15][16][17][18]

Personal life

Nicole was born in Kingston, Jamaica. After graduating from Ardenne High School, she attended the University of the West Indies (Mona) where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication in 2022, and a Master of Science in Governance and Public Policy in 2009.

In 2006 she married former financial executive Fabian McGowan.[19] The union produced two children: a son in 2004 and a daughter in 2010. On 26 September 2010 Fabian died after undergoing elective surgery.[20]

Nicole currently hosts a YouTube web-series Phenomenal Woman Series, which showcases women from the Caribbean who are making significant progress in their respective fields.
