Nick Kupper (born December 26, 1984) is an American political candidate and retired United States Air Force Airman who competed on American Ninja Warrior in seasons 10 and 11[1].

Kupper is running for the Arizona House of Representatives in 2024 for Arizona's 25th legislative district

Early life

Kupper was born the day after Christmas, 1984, in Eugene, Oregon. He is the son of Jeannie Kupper (née Jeffries), a student loan default prevention officer and James Kupper, a Vietnam War veteran and truck driver. He is the youngest of seven children.

He grew up in Creswell, Oregon before joining the Air Force. He met his wife Crystal, a journalist[2], while in high school and they married a year after graduation. Together they have four children, including one adopted daughter.

Military Service

Kupper joined the Air Force in 2003 and served across multiple commands in the United States and the United Kingdom for 20 years. In 2016, while stationed in England at RAF Mildenhall, he and his wife adopted their daughter from Armenia.[3]

In 2018 Kupper competed in a service-wide Ninja Warrior-style competition where the Air Force took first place over the other service branches.[4]

American Ninja Warrior

Season 10

In the tenth season, Kupper and his family were aired during his city qualifier run[5]. He made it to the fifth obstacle Lightning Bolts before falling in the water and he did not advance to the city finals.[6]

Season 11

In the eleventh season, during his qualifier run he fell on the third obstacle Dangerous Curves and did not advance to the city finals.[7][8]

COVID-19

In August 2021, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin mandated that all service members take a fully FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine.[9] Kupper refused due to the fact that the only shots available at the time were labeled Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and were not approved by the FDA.[10]

In December 2021, he sued Secretary Austin in the lawsuit Coker v. Austin over the illegal use of EUA shots on service members without obtaining their informed consent.[11]

Because of his stance he was invited to speak on Congressman Matt Gaetz's podcast twice[12][13] about the vaccine mandate and in July 2022, he appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to discuss it as well.[14]

Awards

Military Times Service Member of the Year

In 2017, Military Times recognized Kupper as the Air Force Times Service Member of the year (Honorable Mention) due in part to his military service and work with orphans.[15]

Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award (TOYA)

In 2016, the United States Junior Chamber recognized Kupper as one of their Ten Outstanding Young Americans for "Humanitarian and/or Voluntary Leadership.[16]
