Nic Fanciulli (born August 25, 1979 in Kenya)[1]) is a Grammy-nominated[2] electronic music artist, DJ and label owner.

Nic began his career[3] in music at Plastic Surgery Records, Maidstone where he worked for two years in the early 2000s. Inspired by Laurent Garnier he began to DJ, handing out demo tapes to local promoters in Maidstone. Among them was Sergio (Serge) Bienati, promoter of well-known local event brand ClubClass[4]. Nic slipped him several tapes, after receiving the third tape Serge went on a manhunt, eventually tracking Nic down and giving him his break. Serge gave Nic a residency in the main room at ClubClass at a club called Atomics when he was 19 and signed him to the Club Class booking agency in 2003. In 1998 Nic set up his own label, Portent Records[5], putting out his first release ‘Dockside’ (with Matt Blewett) in 2000. Releases include the Mojolators ‘Drifting’ (featuring Camilla) which was played by Pete Tong on Radio 1 for 14 consecutive weeks, eventually being licensed to Multiply Records, a sub-label of Telstar/BMG.

After he was signed to the ClubClass booking agency, Nic’s career ascended rapidly, picking up bookings at Cream, Turnmills, Space (Ibiza and Miami), Shindig, Passion, Circus, Type, appearing at Radio 1 weekends in Ibiza[6], Miami and Cardiff and the Radio 1 Outdoor stage at Homelands Festival. In September 2004 he started a residency with The Gallery at Turnmills in Farringdon, London. In 2005 he was invited to record an entry in the Rennaissance mix series. Rennaissance Presents Nic Fanciulli was released in October 2005, followed by Volume 2 a year later. Nic has also created mixes for Global Underground's GUDJ[7] series, Balance[8] and In The House (published by longstanding house label Defected). He has produced remixes for key house labels Deep Dish, Deep Vision, Yoshitoshi and Credence, plus major labels Universal and Warner Bros. under a number of aliases including Buick Project (with songwriter and producer Andy Chatterley), Mansdisco, One + One (with James Zabiela), Skylark and The Alchemistas. His remix back catalogue includes the ‘Skylark’ remix of 4Tune 500’s Dancing In The Dark, which was named ‘Essential New Tune’ on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show in 2003. That same year Nic was invited to appear on Radio 1’s Essential Mix, lauded by host Pete Tong as “as the hottest DJ around right now”. He has since appeared on the Essential Mix a further two times, once in List of Essential Mix episodes November 2017[9] and again in List of August 2018 back-to-back with Steve Lawler[10] live from ANTS at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel in Ibiza. Fanciulli was also inducted into Pete Tong's Hall Of Fame in 2015 Nic also secured a year-long residency on Radio 1 in 2005[11], hosting his own regular show throughout the year. In 2005, Nic launched a second record label, with Andy Chatterley, called Saved. The outlet launched with ‘Chancer/Drop The Beat’ under his alias Skylark presents Buick Project. Across over 100 releases the label has signed music from artists such as James Talk, Mark Broom, Mat Playford, Joel Mull, Andrea Oliva, Uner, Steve Rachmad, Yousef, Spencer Parker, Oxia and more. The label celebrated 100 releases in 2014 with a world tour[12] including dates in Tel Aviv, Glasgow, Hollywood and Washington D.C.. Fanciulli now runs the label with his brother, Mark. In 2017 he collborated with Matthew Dear under his Audion pseudonym to produce 'Resistance'[13], released on his own label Saved. In December 2019 Nic performed at the O2 London[14] in support of Pete Tong's Ibiza Classics Show with the Heritage Orchestra, also remixing a track from the Ibiza Classics album. Nic's remix of Promised Land[15] (a rework of the 1987 Joe Smooth classic featuring Disciples) was featured on the LP, released by Universal Music in 2018. Nic earned a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical)’ in 2006 for his Buick Project remix of ‘Damage’ by Tracey Thorn. He has also remixed Underworld, Kylie Minogue, Groove Armada, The Juan MacLean, Gorillaz, Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa, Jamie xx and U.N.K.L.E.

Ibiza & International Appearances

Fanciulli has become a regular visitor to dance music ‘mecca’ Ibiza, frequenting the island every season since the early 2000s. He was one of the key residents at Carl Cox’s long-running Revolution nights at Space, with regular bookings at ANTS, Ushuaïa. He now has three residencies in Ibiza including his own ‘La Familia[16]’ at Ushuaïa and ‘We Are The Night’ at Pacha. In 2017, Nic began his weekly residency ‘In The Dark’ at Hi Ibiza[17] (on the former site of Space). Two years later he launched 'Dance Or Die'[18][19], which ran throughout the 2019 season at Ushuaïa[20]. On 2nd October, 2016 Nic played the last ever set at the closing of Space[21] in Ibiza, performing back-to-back with Carl Cox for six hours[22]. Nic's international appearances include tours of North and South America and Europe plus shows in India[23], Thailand, Dominican Republic, Israel and Australia. He is also a regular at The BPM Festival[24] in Mexico and Portugal. He also hosted and played a special Boiler Room edition in Mexico City[38] and has appeared in Dubai[39] numerous times since 2006, most recently in early 2020[40]. Nic appeared as a speaker at the Malta edition of IMS (International Music Summit) in 2019[41], appearing with his manager Milo Mitchum to discuss their musical journey.

Album & Live Show

Nic released his 16-track debut album My Heart[42] in 2017[43][44]. The long-player features appearances from Blur frontman Damon Albarn[45], veteran house vocalist Jamie Principle and CONSTANCE. In 2018, he released the ‘Star’ EP[46] on Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It with his brother Mark Fanciulli. That year he also released an edit of Lee Cabrera’s ‘Shake it’, and a remix of Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa’s One Kiss (song)#Charts No.1 chart hit One Kiss’, which was released on his label Saved Records In 2018, Nic debuted a sold out live show[47] at Village Underground in Shoreditch, east London. My Heart Live saw Nic perform all 16 tracks from his debut LP live with the aid of lighting effects by High Scream, a visuals teams that also provides production for Nic’s Ushuaïa and Hi Ibiza shows.

The Social Festival

Nic founded his boutique festival, The Social [48] in 2014. It was launched as a way to bring international electronic music artists to his hometown, Maidstone. The festival started out as a one-day event, held at Mote Park, Kent, and has now extended its run to three days[49].

The Social has branched out to South and Central America in 2017, with editions launched in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina[50]. Artists who have appeared at the festival include Carl Craig, Ben Klock, Josh Wink, Pete Tong, Dixon, Guy Gerber, Sasha, Anja Schneider and The Blessed Madonna.

Other Ventures

In 2018 Nic collaborated with designer Marc Jacques Burton on a collection, which was limited to a run of 15 pieces for each design. The collaboration was launched in conjunction with Nic's album, My Heart, and featured the anatomical heart design from the album artwork. In the summer of 2018 Nic teamed up with Italian designer and owner of Numero 00, Valerio Farina, for the second My Heart Capsule Collection.
