New Rockstars is a Youtube channel with over 2.67 million subscribers.[1] that covers popular movies and shows including the MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, Disney, Rick and Morty, The Walking Dead (TV series)|Walking Dead, Pixar, Game of Thrones, The Boys, and any other pop culture trend. The channel joined Youtube on October 8, 2011 and has nearly 900,000,000 views[2] . People who collaborate on the channel include Erik Voss, Filup Molina, List of Tommy Bechtold, and Marina Mastros. New Rockstars breaks down movies, presents theories, has a question answer show titled Big Question, and a theory competition show called Rogue Theory. Videos usually gain anywhere from 50,000 to 9,000,000 views. The channel has a net worth of $1.5 million[3].

Beginnings

The channel started out as a platform for interviews of new-media creators in 2011[4]. In 2015, a video about Fast and the Furious 7 garnered over 9 million views[5]. The company then changed course and decided to focus on big Hollywood properties[6].

Content

Breakdowns: In depth breakdowns of movies[7], TV-show|shows[8], Video game|video games[9], and Trailers (video)|trailers[10]. The breakdowns include hidden Easter egg (media)|easter eggs, theories, hidden meanings, and even the purpose of the music of a film[11]. Sometimes entire franchises get breakdown series, like the Infinity Saga Rewatch of the MCU[12]. Erik Voss usually does the breakdowns, but SourceFed|Sam Bashor[13], Tommy Bechtold[14], and Filup Molina[15] all have done breakdowns in the past.

  • Theory videos: Videos speculating about upcoming events in popular franchises, mainly Marvel or Star Wars.
  • Rogue Theory: A theory competition show/podcast in which four competitors compete by pitching theories about popular properties and answering "rogue questions"[16]. Moderators on the show have included Filup Molina, Marina Mastros, Tommy Bechtold, and Erik Voss. Competitors on the show have included Erik Voss, Tommy Bechtold, Marina Mastros, Joshua Ovenshire|Joshua "Jovenshire" Ovenshire, Angelica Trae, SourceFed|Trisha Hershberger, The Onion|Leo Garcia, Jessica Clemons, Zach Huddleston, Maude Garrett, and many other guests.
  • Big Question: A question/answer format show where the two hosts discuss the questions for the show. Hosts include Erik Voss[17], Filup Molina[18], Tommy Bechtold[19], Zach Huddleston[20], Marina Mastros[21], and Jovenshire[22]. A series called "Big Question Bites" repackages old segments of Big Question to make them easier to access.
  • Wookieeleaks: A The Mandalorian|Mandalorian reaction Aftershow|after show where the events of the last episode are discussed by two hosts. Hosts include Erik Voss[23], Tommy Bechtold[24], and Filup Molina[25].
  • Tweet-Downs: Erik Voss breaks down Tweets (Twitter)|tweets that could give hints of upcoming events in popular franchises.

Now Defunct Shows

  • Need to Know/New Rockstars News/Debrief: A talk show/podcast where current pop culture events are discussed. A trivia question would be given mid-show with the answer being revealed at the end, and the loser would have to perform a punishment. Punishments included the "GIF of Shame"[26], cleverly riffing on headlines in the "In Other News" segment[27], and sharing an embarrassing story about yourself[28]. Hosts included Erik Voss, Filup Molina, Maude Garrett, Sam Bashor, and Tommy Bechtold, with the occasional guest host. Repackaged segments of the show were also uploaded and titled "Nerd Talk"[29].
  • Erik Voss used to do an episode by episode breakdown of The Walking Dead (TV series)|The Walking Dead.Westeros Weekly: A show/podcast breaking down Game of Thrones|Game Of Thrones[30]. Hosts included Erik Voss and Filup Molina.
  • The Walking Dead (TV series)|Walking Dead Breakdowns: Hosts would breakdown episodes of the The Walking Dead (TV series)|Walking Dead.
  • The Flash (season 4)|The Flash Breakdowns: Sam Bashor would breakdown recent episodes of the The CW|CW show.
  • Skrull Search: Erik Voss would examine Characters of the MCU characters to see if they were Skrull impostors[31]. It was hinted at by Erik Voss that Skrull Search could return because of news of the new Secret Invasion (TV series)|Secret Invasion Disney+ series[32].

Hosts

  • Erik Voss: Voss is a comedian and writer. Los Angeles is where he lives and works in improv comedy, and where he was a regular at the IO West|iO Theater[33]. His film credits include the short film Time Jumpers[34], and he went to college at the University of Florida[35]. His twitter and instagram handle is @eavoss, and he has his own Youtube channel with 2.42 thousand subscribers.[36] Also, he is a self-described "tall baby who creates funny things" [33]. Along with being in almost every video, he is a writer and producer for most of the videos.
  • Filup Molina: Molina is a screenwriter, actor, and producer. He is a founder of New Rockstars and Epic Hero Fitness. Before coming back to New Rockstars, he was a host on SourceFed|SourceFedNERD[37] along with former New Rockstars hosts Maude Garrett and Sam Bashor. He was in the 2010 film, New Low. He is the executive creative director of New Rockstars[38]. He is no longer a regular host, but he makes the occasional appearance. His twitter and instagram handle is @fliupmolina.
  • Tommy Bechtold: Bechtold is an actor and writer, born November 10, 1983 in Webster, New York. He graduated from Webster Schroeder High School[39]. He has appeared in many TV shows and movies including The Middle (TV series)|The Middle, Jimmy Kimmel Live![39], For the Weekend, Bloodsucking Bastards, and Mascots (2016 film)|Mascots. He won the first ever Stanley Award for lifetime achievement for being an extra[40]. His twitter handle is @tommybechtold.
  • Marina Mastros: Mastros is an actress and writer, and she is from Los Angeles[41]. She is on the podcast Campout Creeps, and she is a diversity, equity, and inclusion director[41]. Her twitter and instagram handle is @marinamastros[42]
  • Zach "Off-Screen Producer/On-Screen Producer" Huddleston: He is a producer of New Rockstars and sometimes appears on screen. He has appeared in Rogue Theory[43], and Big Question[20]. In addition, he enjoys improv[44]. @zhuddleston is his twitter handle[20].

Former Hosts

  • Sam Bashor: Bashor was born August 16, 1993[45]. Bashor was a member of SourceFedNERD before joining New Rockstars, and he joined New Rockstars in 2017 after SourceFed ended. Along with Bashor, Maude Garrett and Filup Molina joined the channel in 2017, with this being Filup's second stint with the channel[46]. Bashor was in the Need to Know/New Rockstars News/Debrief podcast/show and did breakdowns for New Rockstars. He still makes occasional guest appearances on Rogue Theory. Also, he was nominated for a Shorty Award for the category of weird[45]. Additionally, DJ Wooldridge and Bashor have a podcast called Only Stupid Answers[47].
  • Maude Garrett (see main article): She joined New Rockstars in 2017 appearing on Need to Know/New Rockstars News/Debrief, and afterwards she appeared on Rogue Theory[48]. Her twitter handle is @maudegarrett.

New Rockstars Merch

On October 28, 2020, New Rockstars announced a merch shop[49]. Items include hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, coasters, and a "Latest Obsession Collection" item[50]. The first "Latest Obsession" was a "This is the way" Mandalorian shirt[51].
