The New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NICO is a Lithuanian string ensemble based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Described as 'modern classical music equivalent of rock stars', the ensemble focuses on performing contemporary minimal music, especially music created by its founder, conductor and artistic director Gediminas Gelgotas. NICO performances involve mixing classical and pop idioms with non-traditional string instrument techniques, playing from memory and minimalistic choreography.
NICO was established in 2006 by the Lithuanian minimal music composer Gediminas Gelgotas. The first concert took place in Vilnius, Lithuania on October 6, 2006.
New Ideas Chamber Orchestra has performed in prestigious concert halls across Europe, Asia and North America, including Leipzig Gewandhaus, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Roundhouse and others.
