Tyrone-Jay Tupac-Payne (born June 10, 1999), known professionally as Nerdi, is an American musical artist, producer, audio engineer, and freelance teacher. He is noted for blending technical production with songwriting and performance, drawing influence from his multicultural background and early education in the arts.[1]

Early life and education

Nerdi was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in a musically inclined family of four and is the eldest of three brothers. His cultural background includes African, Filipino, and German heritage, which he has described as influential in shaping his creative perspective.[1]

He attended the Ètude Academy of Arts and Science, where he was recognized as a top student in music and sound production. He later enrolled at Madison Media Institute, pursuing an associate degree in Media Business. Although he did not complete the program, the experience provided a foundation in both the creative and technical aspects of media production.

Career

Nerdi began making music at the age of eight. By high school, he had already developed skills in sound production, which led to further training and experience at Be Sound Studios in Milwaukee, where he has since worked as a residential artist.[1]

Over the course of his career, Nerdi has collaborated with artists including Rico Love, contributing to studio projects though not all have been officially released. Video documentation of these collaborations has circulated online.[1]

In addition to music production and performance, he works as a freelance teacher and writer, integrating artistic expression with educational and literary efforts.[1]

Artistic style and influences

Nerdi’s work combines elements of hip hop, R&B, and experimental production. He has cited his multicultural upbringing and exposure to diverse music as major influences on his sound. His artistic philosophy emphasizes personal responsibility, self-reflection, and using creativity as a means of social and cultural engagement.[1]

Personal life

Outside of music, Nerdi has expressed interest in cycling, nature, fishing, and exploring global cuisines. He has also shown curiosity in fashion, engineering, and robotics, reflecting a broad range of creative and technical pursuits.
