Nandan Reddy is an Indian entrepreneur and co-founder of Swiggy, one of India’s largest online food delivery platforms. He is recognized as a significant figure in the Indian startup ecosystem, having contributed to the rise of hyperlocal delivery services and the expansion of the quick commerce industry in India. Reddy, along with Sriharsha Majety and Rahul Jaimini, helped build Swiggy into a leading food delivery and logistics company.[1]

Early life and education

Reddy was born and raised in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. During his time at BITS, Reddy developed an interest in technology-driven businesses and logistics systems. His academic background and exposure to entrepreneurial opportunities later shaped his career in startups and e-commerce ventures.

Career

Early ventures

After completing his education, Reddy launched a travel-related startup called Gifting Inc., which focused on customized travel planning and itinerary creation. Although the venture did not scale significantly, it gave him practical experience in entrepreneurship and highlighted the challenges of building consumer-facing businesses in India.[2]

Founding Swiggy

In 2014, Reddy co-founded Swiggy with Sriharsha Majety and later joined by Rahul Jaimini. The startup began operations in Bengaluru as an online food ordering and delivery platform, aiming to solve inefficiencies in restaurant-to-customer logistics. At a time when many food delivery services were struggling, Swiggy distinguished itself by creating its own dedicated delivery fleet, rather than relying solely on third-party logistics.[3]

Reddy played a critical role in shaping the company’s early operations, product development, and customer experience. Swiggy’s platform integrated restaurants, delivery partners, and consumers into a seamless model, which quickly gained popularity in major Indian cities. Backed by investors such as Accel, SAIF Partners, Naspers (Prosus), and SoftBank, Swiggy rapidly scaled into a nationwide brand.

Growth and diversification

Under the leadership of its co-founders, Swiggy expanded beyond restaurant deliveries into multiple verticals. These included Swiggy Instamart, a grocery delivery service, and Swiggy Genie, a hyperlocal courier service. The company’s entry into quick commerce further positioned it as a competitor in India’s evolving e-commerce and last-mile delivery sector.6[4]

Reddy’s contributions have been particularly noted in product design, operations, and building scalable technology systems for the platform. Swiggy’s focus on reliability, speed, and customer satisfaction has been attributed in part to the vision shared by its co-founders.[5]

Recognition

Reddy has been featured in leading business media, including Economic Times, Forbes India, and Mint, for his role as a Swiggy co-founder. He has been highlighted as one of the young Indian technology entrepreneurs helping to reshape India’s digital economy. His work with Swiggy has also been cited as part of the larger success story of food delivery startups in India and their role in creating sustainable hyperlocal ecosystems
