Motherland Nepal is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 by Anil Pandey and headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization is dedicated to integrating Nepalese immigrants, refugees, students, and scholars into American culture and aims to preserve Nepalese socio-cultural norms and values. The organization's goal is to unite all strata of Nepalese Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area through various activities and programs. Additionally, Motherland Nepal strives to promote Nepal as a tourist destination.[1][2]
History
Motherland Nepal is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 2002 by Anil Pandey, who serves as the chairman. The organization supports the growing Nepalese population in the San Francisco Bay Area and preserves Nepalese heritage in the United States. Pandey envisioned increasing interest in Nepal as a tourist destination, supporting the growing Nepalese population in the San Francisco Bay Area and preserving Nepalese heritage in the United States and Nepal.[3]
Motherland Nepal conducts programs focusing on gender equality, social justice, and human rights, operating at local, national, and international levels. The organization is committed to eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and emphasizing sustainable development and social justice to improve the lives of individuals and communities globally.[4]
Projects
Motherland Nepal is involved in various projects facilitating the integration of Nepalese immigrants, refugees, students, and scholars into American culture. It offers programs addressing social issues and promoting development, including initiatives related to health and education, with a strong emphasis on women and children. Additionally, Motherland Nepal provides comprehensive social, educational, medical, and housing services to combat problems like substance abuse. They conduct awareness programs focused on creating an equality-based society.[5]
The organization's efforts include establishing the Nepalese Community Center, launching the Grief Center, funding schools, and organizing awareness campaigns, cultural exchange programs, and fundraising efforts.[6]
Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, Motherland Nepal was among the most active donors to the relief efforts, donating $25,001 to the Bay Area Nepalese Community Center in 2016. The organization also sponsors the Gender Equality Journalism Prize annually, with a prize fund set at 1 million Nepalese rupees in 2018, awarded to two journalists.[7]
On March 8, 2024, Motherland Nepal inaugurated the Muktinath Temple in California, a significant cultural landmark representing Nepalese heritage in the city.[8] Princess Himani Shah was honored with special commendations from President Anil Pandey, representing Muktinath Dham, for her participation in the Rudrabhishek Puja, a significant ceremonial worship conducted at the site.
