Mohammad Mirdal Akib (born August 7, 1976) is a figure from Makassar City who now has the mandate as CEO of Media Group. [1] Starting his career journey at one of the largest international accounting firms, Deloitte, as an auditor, Mirdal Akib continued his career journey in Jakarta, variously holding various executive duties and positions until he was entrusted with becoming the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Media Group (owner of Surya Paloh) in 2018 to date.

Background

Mohammad Mirdal Akib grew up like his other colleagues. His childhood was spent in the cities of Makassar and Mataram, studying at SMP Negeri 2 Mataram, and in 1994 he successfully graduated from SMA Negeri 1 Mataram.[2]

The hardships of living in the city of Mataram provided Mirdal with the opportunity to continue his studies and graduate from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Trisakti University, Jakarta. After graduating from college, Jakarta became a place for careers in a number of well-known companies. Including Metro TV and other business units within the Media Group.[3]

Career

He began his career journey at one of the largest international accounting and world consulting firms, Deloitte, as an auditor. His career in the television industry began as a consultant who designed the news television station Metro TV from scratch. In 1999, Mirdal Akib was still serving as Senior Auditor for Deloitte Indonesia when he was involved in developing the design system, standard operating procedure (SOP) and workflow for the first news television station in Indonesia. Then he joined Metro TV as Assistant Corporate Controller whose job was to oversee all system journeys from scratch. Over time, he held various positions in various business units during his career at this TV station owned by Surya Paloh. Until finally, he was trusted to become CEO of Media Group (holding company) in 2019.[1]

Mirdal Akib also holds several positions in the Media Group business units: Media Group Network ( Chief Executive Officer ), PT. Citra Multimedia Indonesia (Medcom.id) as President Director, PT Media Transmission Indonesia ( President Commissioner ), Surya Edukasi Bangsa Foundation (OSC) as Founder & Chairman, Surya Citra Bangsa Foundation (Media Academy) as Founder & Chairman, PT Pangansari Utama Food Resources ( President Commissioner & Executive Chairman, PT Media Djaya Bersama ( President Commissioner ) and most recently PT Surya Indonesia Satu Property as ( President Director ).[2]

Indonesia 1 Tower

In 2021, various national media reports are rife regarding the case of the Indonesia 1 Building located on Jalan Thamrin, Central Jakarta. As reported, PT Media Properti Indonesia (MPI), one of the business entities of the Media Group which is also under the leadership of Mirdal Akib as President Director of PT Surya Indonesia Satu Properti (formerly CSMI which changed its name after being successfully acquired 100%), reported the company from China, named PT China Sonangol Media Investment (CSMI) in July 2021 in connection with a case of alleged fraud and embezzlement of investment in the construction of the Indonesia 1 building[4].[3]

The polemic in this case is related to CSMI's commitment to MPI, which allegedly reneged on the share rights distribution agreement, the percentage of which changed and was detrimental to MPI. But finally in December 2021, MPI has succeeded in carrying out the process of acquiring 100% of the Indonesia 1 Building project from China Sonangol Media Investment (CSMI). The twin towers which are claimed to be one of the tallest in Indonesia, are currently in the completion stage.[5]

Activity

This Young CEO believes that Indonesian youth are extraordinary, not even inferior to other youths in the world. All students are believed to have the passion to bring the Indonesian nation even better in the future.[6] His enthusiasm to contribute to building Indonesian youth has become a motivation in creating the Surya Education Bangsa Foundation (OSC)[7] in 2019 and various other youth programs such as MGN Stage[8] (Metro TV).

In every youth seminar, the CEO of Media Group always encourages today's youth to have big dreams to become big leaders in the future and contribute to the Indonesian nation in the future.[9]
