Mindaugas Neverovas is a Finnish/Lithuanian professional pianist and certified piano teacher.[1] He is a versatile pianist with a broad repertoire and range of music including classical, romantic, pop, and jazz music as well as film scores.[2] Neverovas has been working as a concert pianist and pianist for hire for over 20 years across Europe and has won multiple prizes in 10 different national and international piano competitions. Mindaugas is also known as an accomplished piano teacher in Finland, whose students won prizes in international piano competitions and got into major music universities such as Sibelius Academy.[3][4]

Early life and education

Neverovas was born in Tauragė, Lithuania in 1989. He started playing the piano at the age of five, influenced by his mother, who is a music teacher. Everyone in his family plays some instrument, including his brother, Raimundas Neverovas who is a professional violin player. So it was a natural instinct for Neverovas to get into the musical profession.

Neverovas began his piano studies at the age of six at Tauragė Music School. At the age of 13, he fully committed and dedicated himself to the piano and music, which ignited his desire to become a musician. In 2005, he started his professional music studies at Klaipeda Stasys Šimkus Conservatory.

In 2011, Neverovas graduated as a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the Lithuanian Academy of Music. He continued his studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater to complete his Master's degree in piano performance. From 2013 - 2015 he completed another master’s degree in piano accompaniment and chamber music.

He has deepened his knowledge at the prestigious Sibelius Academy for two years studying piano performance, chamber music, and orchestral conducting. In 2019 Mindaugas also completed his music pedagogy studies at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Mindaugas takes pride in constantly honing his skills. He regularly participates in masterclasses with renowned professional pianists and distinguished professors, such as Denis Pascal, Dmitri Alexeev, Bernd Glemser, Graham Scott, and Avedis Kouyoumdjian.

Career

During his career, Neverovas has performed both in solo and chamber music concerts in France, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Greece, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.[5] He performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater Orchestra, Camerata Klaipėda Orchestra, and Collegium Musicum Turku Orchestra.[6]

As a concert pianist and pianist for hire, Neverovas plays a broad variety of music, including classical, jazz, pop, and film music soundtracks.[7][8]

In the fall of 2014, Neverovas won a finalist diploma at the Estonian Pianists’ Competition (Tallinn) and played as a soloist with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.[9] He has given numerous solo recitals in France, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Baltic countries, and Finland, along with several music festivals like the Piano Pic Festival in France and the Chopiniana Festival in Estonia. From 2011 to 2012, Mindaugas was the artistic director of the International Tallinn JazzOn Festival in Estonia, an open-air jazz festival that he co-founded.[10][11]

In addition to this, Neverovas is an experienced rehearsal pianist for choirs and has performed with the renowned Suomalainen Kamarikuoro. Together with his colleague Johannes Teppo, he established the piano-cello duo Duo Baltica in 2016.[12]

As a teacher, Mindaugas has prepared students for entry at Sibelius Academy, Sibelius lukio, Conservatory of Helsinki, Pop and Jazz Conservatory. In addition, Mindaugas’ students have won multiple prizes in the International Tapiola piano competition in Espoo in 2021 and WPTA Finland International Piano Competition in 2019. Currently he teaches in his own studio, International School of Music as well as online.[13] Mindaugas delivers piano sessions in four different languages: English, Finnish, Lithuanian and Russian. He has instructed piano enthusiasts from more than 40 nationalities to date.[14]

Awards

In 2014, Mindaugas gained a Finalist diploma at the Estonian National Pianists’ competition. ​In 2011, Neverovas was selected from 150 applicants to compete in the prestigious Aarhus International Piano Competition. He has won multiple prizes in the international piano competition "Music Without Limits in 2006 and 2007. Additionally, in 2007, Mindaugas secured third place in the Klaipeda W. A. Mozart Piano Competition. He has also won second prize at the Stasys Simkus conservatory pianists competition.[15]

During his career, Mindaugas has been awarded grants and scholarships by Tauragė City Mayor (2011), the Lithuanian State (2011-12), the European Structural Funds (2012-13), the Saulius Karosas Foundation (2012-14), and the Estonian Education and Science Ministry (2014-15).

Personal life

In his free time, Neverovas likes to workout, cook, and taste various food. Asian cuisine remains one of his favorites. He also enjoys playing tennis, swimming, and snowboarding; he obtains scuba diving certificates.
