Mimi Anne Kwa (born 1974) is an Australian author[1][2][3]. Kwa's first book, a memoir, House of Kwa, is published by HarperCollins|Harper Collins and ABC Books who describe Kwa's work as "Wild Swans meets Educated (book)|Educated" [4]. Kwa is a television presenter[5], journalist[6], newsreader[7][8], podcaster[9], actor[10][11][12], public speaking coach[13] and keynote speaker[14]. She features as a newsreader in international television series - Preacher (TV series)|Preacher and Wentworth (TV series)|Wentworth[15] and cameos in the ABC TV mini series - The Newsreader. Kwa is known for her roles on television (1999-2019) as a journalist and news reader, for Nine Network and the ABC (Australian TV network).

Early Life and Background

Mimi Kwa was born (23 May 1974) in Perth, Western Australia and lives in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Australia. Her father, Francis Tak Lau Kwa, was born (31 May 1935) the youngest boy of 32 siblings, in Hong Kong. Kwa's mother, Mela Bryce, was born (15 May 1953) in England. She has two siblings. Kwa's nationality is Australians and her Ethnic group is Eurasian (mixed ancestry) (Australian born British Empire). Kwa's multicultural ethnicity was featured in Del Irani's award winning ABC television program, Talk About It.[16] Kwa's Chinese father's large family is one of the topics Kwa writes about in her memoir, House of Kwa[1]. Kwa's parents are separated and her father has remarried twice. Kwa has two half brothers.

Education

Kwa studied Architecture at University of Western Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design before studying broadcasting at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. In high school, Kwa was awarded a scholarship to St Mary's Anglican Girls' School, Perth.

Career

Kwa's first national on air television role was for the ABC (Australian TV network) Corporation as a cadet journalist in 1999 with ABC News (Australia). In 2000 Kwa joined Nine News and A Current Affair (Australian TV program) hosted by Ray Martin (television presenter), Mike Munro and Tracy Grimshaw. She returned to the ABC as a news anchor (2004-2018), broadcasting live for ABC Australia (Southeast Asian TV channel), Insiders (Australian TV program) with Barrie Cassidy, Virgin Airlines in flight news, ABC News 24, and The World with Beverley O'Connor. Kwa hosted corporate television for the National Australia Bank for five years (circa 2005-2010). In her role as a commercial actor, Kwa features in marketing campaigns for organisations including BMW[17], Specsavers|SpecSavers[18], Coles Supermarkets|Coles, Victoria Police[19], Samsung, Simonds Homes, Brand Power, Medifacts, Fairfax Media, The Sydney Morning Herald|Sydney Morning Herald[20], Herald Sun, Cambridge Hot Maths, Betty Basics and Activated Nutrients. Kwa has presented for Parliament of Victoria|Victorian Parliament, Victorian Building Association[21], and Monash University. Kwa's home is featured in Home Beautiful Magazine[22]

Personal Life

Mimi Kwa is married to Leadership Collective Australia founder, John Roberts. Together they have four children and reside in Melbourne, Australia.
