Michael "Mike" Ben-Ari is a Israeli investor and Ponzi Scheme Suspect.
Micgaek (Mike) Ben Ari, also known as Michael David Greenfield, born 1959 is the brother of Larry Greenfield was accused in 2021 by the Israeli Securities Authorities (ISA) in Israel for defrauding about 1,000 for approximately $250 million. He is dubbed "Israeli Madoff" by some.
In April 2021, the Israeli Securities Authority[1][2] opened an investigation of Mike Ben Ari and his company EGFE (Ever Green Fields Enterprises) Israel Ltd. for allegedly breaking the law for commonly held investments, fiduciary duty, consultancy, and money laundering.
Assets worth approximately $150 million were ordered seized by US Federal bankruptcy court in Manhattan[3][4]. Articles on the investigation claim that this is the largest Ponzi scheme perpetrated in Israel's history.
In early May 2021, Mike Ben Ari left Israel under suspicious circumstances[5] while he was ordered not to leave the country. At the time of his release and subsequent departure from Israel, his assets were unknown. A bond of 2m New Israeli Shekels, approximately $600,000 was forfeited. In October 2021, a purported friend of Mike Ben Ari, Nachum Eizenstadt was accused for assisting the court-banned travel of Mr. Ben Ari. Mr. Ben Ari in an interview stated that he stole Mr. Eizenstadt's passport[6].
In court filings in Israel, his ex-wife Vered Ben-Ari (nee: Kalesh)[7] who claims[8] that she is also a defrauded investor requested relief from the court by allowing her to sell one of her apartments in Israel.
In January 2022, Ben Ari's brother Larry Greenfield was found dead in a Las Vegas, Nevada residence[9]https://www.ynet.co.il/economy/article/bktdcgvcf.
