Mika Karhumaa (born 28 September 1972) is a Finnish author, lecturer, and international music business manager. He is best known for his trilogy, The Essence of the Music, a methodical book series about the international music business.[1]

Karhumaa currently serves as an artist manager at Delta Enigma and Gentle Savage - and a lecturer & course planner at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. He is also an owner of Re-Member Agency, working on strategic music business management for the past two decades.

Throughout his career, Karhumaa has worked alongside various artists and has also worked at the bands like Winterborn, Celesty, and Melba Culp. He has also shared his expertise in the music business industry as a lecturer at a couple of other universities like the Sibelius Academy and Arcada University.

Early life and education

Karhumaa was born on 28 September 1972 to Seppo and Terttu. He grew up in Seinäjoki, Finland, where lived till 1992. As a teenager, Karhumaa learned to play bass guitar and was a member of multiple local bands. He also played baseball for many years.

Karhumaa, in 1995, enrolled in the University of Turku, where he studied law. Karhumaa, even though having an inclination toward music, decided to pursue law after he got inspired by John Grisham's book - The Firm.

Career

Karhumaa started his career in 1994 as a bass guitar teacher at Turku Pop Rock Jazz school, where he worked for a year and then left upon his admission to the University of Turku. In 1997, Karhumaa became a legal trainee at Finn-Power, where he worked for over a year.

In 2000, Karhumaa published his first music business management book. Since then, he has been a prominent figure in the industry, known for his Essence of the Music Business Trilogy. In the same year, he also established Re-Member Agency offering strategic music business management services, where he is also currently working.

In 2004, Karhumaa joined Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences as a lecturer, where he served for a brief period. In the same year, he also became a legal advisor for helsinkirecords.com. In 2007 he again served as a lecturer at the Seinäjoki University for a brief period. In 2005, Karhumaa became a manager at Winterborn, where he worked for over three years. A year later, he also became a manager at Celesty, where he served for over two years.

In 2012 Karhumaa became a guest lecturer at Sibelius Academy and later in 2018 became a music business management lecturer and course planner at Arcada University.

In 2019, Karhumaa joined Melba Cup as an artist manager, where he served for over two years. He also started working at Delta Enigma in 2020 on a similar post, along with joining Seinäjoki University as a music business management lecturer and course planner.
