Michael Ray Helfrich (born 1969 or 1970[1]) is an American politician who has served as the mayor of York, Pennsylvania since 2018. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as President of the York City Council.[2]

Helfrich was first elected to the York City Council in 2011, taking office in 2012. He served as Vice President of the Council from January to November 2016, subsequently becoming President of the Council, a role in which he served until being elected mayor.[3]

In 2017, Helfrich challenged incumbent mayor Kim Bracey in the Democratic primary, losing by a margin of 12 percent.[4] After collecting enough write-in votes in the Republican primary to run in the general election as a Republican, he defeated Bracey by a margin of 3 percent.[5]

Helfrich was re-elected in 2021, defeating independent Shareef Hameed three-to-one.[1]
