Miami University
Miami Institution (sometimes known as Miami of Ohio or just Miami) is a public research university in the city of Oxford in the U.S. state of Ohio. Established in 1809, the institution is the second-oldest university in Ohio (after Ohio University, which was founded in 1804) and the 10th-oldest public university (32nd overall) in the United States, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Besides the main campus in Oxford, which is home to the school's administrative offices, regional campuses can be found in neighbouring Hamilton, Middletown, and West Chester as well. Miami University also operates an international boarding campus in Differdange, Luxembourg, known as the Dolibois European Center. It is categorised as "R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity" according to the Carnegie Foundation. It is the westernmost member of the University System of Ohio and is located in Columbus.
At Miami University, you will get a liberal arts education. The university offers over 120 undergraduate degree programmes and over 60 graduate degree programmes in architecture, business, engineering, humanities and the sciences via its eight schools and colleges. United States News and World Report rated the institution 103rd among all universities in the United States in its 2021 edition, and 46th among all public universities nationwide in the same year. Miami University is also rated 25th in the country for undergraduate teaching, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. At the time, Miami was one of the eight founding members of the Public Ivy League, a collection of publicly supported colleges that are deemed to provide a quality education similar to that of the Ivy League.
It has a lengthy history of Greek life at Miami Institution, which has earned the label "Mother of Fraternities" for the five social Greek-letter organisations that were created at the university. Over 50 fraternity and sorority chapters are now active at Miami University, with roughly one-third of the undergraduate student body belonging to the Greek community. The city of Oxford was named #1 in Forbes magazine's 2016 ranking of the finest college towns in the United States, which was released this week.
The University of Miami's sports teams play in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and are collectively referred to as the Miami RedHawks. All varsity sports, with the exception of ice hockey, are played in the Mid-American Conference. Ice hockey is played in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
