Mendy Hershkowitz is a Jewish musician, arranger, bandleader, producer, and entrepreneur. He is the musical director of the Mendy Hershkowitz Band and the Sababa Band. Hershkowitz is also known for founding several music-related websites and companies, including themusicalnote.com, which provides Jewish sheet music; the Jewish music streaming app ShiraLi; and Sonic Duo Inc., an entertainment and media company.[1]

Early life and education

Hershkowitz was born and raised in Monroe, where he exhibited a keen interest in music from a young age. At 16, his father, Reb Yechezkel Hershkowitz, arranged private music lessons for him with two chavrusas. Hershkowitz further honed his skills under the mentorship of Marty Laskin in Westchester, where he delved into music theory. He is proficient in music production, piano, and keyboard.

Hershkowitz completed his education at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Career

In 2007, Hershkowitz co-founded the Freilach Orchestra with Avrumy Schreiber. The orchestra's unique blend of traditional Jewish music with modern orchestration quickly captivated audiences, leading to a surge in demand for their performances. However, seeking more studio work and customization opportunities, Mendy parted ways with his partner in 2014.[2]

In 2017, Hershkowitz founded the Mendy Hershkowitz Band, a premier high-end performance group for Jewish live events and entertainment. The band is renowned for its unique approach, blending traditional Jewish melodies with cutting-edge compositions, resulting in a distinctive and appealing sound that resonates with listeners of all ages and cultures. The band, led by Mendy Hershkowitz as musical director, features a talented roster of musicians and has garnered widespread acclaim for its performances, setting a new standard in Jewish music entertainment.[3]

Hershkowitz's musical compositions are characterized by a fusion of vintage melodies and modern orchestration, drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Jewish music. Hershkowitz resides in New York, United States. He is married to Perry Gross, and they have a son. He is known for his deep faith as a Satmar Chassid, influencing his musical career.
