Melina Weber

Melina Weber (born 16 February 1993 in Konstanz), also known as Wei Meilin (Chinese: 韦玫霖), is a multilingual video creator from Germany and an internet celebrity primarily popular in China. She raises awareness for bridging cultural diversity and intercultural understanding between West and East Asia, focusing on the Sino-German cultural exchange.

Early Life

Weber grew up in Konstanz, where she attended first the secondary school Geschwister-Scholl Realschule and later the Humboldt Gymnasium. When she was 17 years old, she moved to Malaysia for a one-year stint to attend a local high school and live with an Indian host family and later a Chinese family.[1]

Education & Career

She studied International Business Management Trinational in cooperation with the Novartis Pharma AG in Basel, Switzerland, where she undertook a three-year management traineeship.[2] The lectures were taught in German, French, and English at three faculties; the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Loerrach, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, and the University of Upper Alsace in France.[3]

In March 2016, she took part in an educational simulation conference of the United Nations in New York City as an extracurricular activity from university.[4]

After an 18-months university course in Mandarin Chinese, Weber enrolled in a Mandarin-taught performing arts course at the Beijing Film Academy.[5]

Cultural Ambassador

Weber creates videos about life in Germany and European culture in Mandarin Chinese. She built a following on various Chinese social media websites, where she is known as German sister Wei Meilin (德国姐姐韦玫霖).[6] She sees herself as a cultural ambassador who wants to improve intercultural understanding.

Modeling and Fitness

Weber every so often worked as a model. She primarily did video commercials for brands such as Google and BenQ.[7] She is also active as a fitness blogger and fitness model.
