Maury Blackman is an American businessperson, investor and US Army veteran. He is the President and CEO of Premise Data, a San Francisco-based data and analytics company and former CEO of Accela, a government technology company.[1] Blackman was the recipient of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Software in 2016.[2]
Early life and education
Blackman graduated from the University of Houston in 1992. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer in 1990[3] and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.[4]
Career
After his military service, Blackman started his career in technology at Telescan, Inc., which later became Investools and now is Thinkorswim.[5] In 2000, Blackman joined Accela, a civic technology company that provided web and cloud-based software and civic engagement services for government.[6] He initially served as vice-president of sales and marketing[7] and assumed the role of CEO in 2007.[8] Under Blackman’s leadership, Accela launched the Civic Platform, a framework for increasing government productivity and citizen engagement, and Accela 311, a mobile application for service requests.[9] The company also acquired eight firms in 2014 and raised a total of $233 million in 2015.[10][11] In February 2018, Blackman assumed the role of CEO at Premise Data, a data & analytics technology company.[12][13][14] He is an advisor for OpenGov, UrbanLeap, Govlist and DroneDeploy; and is also on the board of Forensic Logic, Masabi and ActiveViam. He’s a member of the University of Houston Board of Visitors.[15][16]
Recognition
Blackman was the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Software in 2016[17] and was recognized as one of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers & Drivers 2016 by Government Technology magazine.[18]
