Marty Nothstein is a former American track cyclist widely regarded as among the greatest in history.[1][2] He has won numerous medals and championships, including an Olympic gold medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, and is a first ballot US Bicycling Hall of Fame Inductee. In addition to his sporting achievements, Nothstein has been actively involved in conservation and community outreach efforts in his hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania.[3]

Early Life and Education

Marty Nothstein was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and raised in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania. He began his cycling career at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center (formerly known as the Lehigh Valley Velodrome) and quickly rose to prominence through community programs. He won his first national championship at 17 and went on to win over 35 more throughout his career.

Career

As a Cyclist, Nothstein's most notable achievement was winning the gold medal in the sprint event at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.[4] He also won three World Championships and four Pan Am Games gold medals.[5] In addition to his success on the track, Nothstein won over 150 professional races throughout his career.[6]

Nothstein was known for his commitment to Lehigh County, where he trained exclusively and served as an ambassador for the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. He retired from professional cycling in 2006 and became executive director of the center, where he increased community and professional cycling programs and revenue dollars.[7][8]

Philanthropy and Conservation Efforts

In addition to his work at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, Nothstein has been actively involved in conservation efforts and community outreach projects. He has protected over 500 acres of property from development and chaired the Lehigh County farmland preservation board, helping to protect over 23,000 acres of farmland from development in his community. Nothstein also serves as the development director for Ducks Unlimited Mid-Atlantic region, a conservation organization.[9][10]
