Martín Migoya (born February 21, 1968) is an Argentine technology entrepreneur, best known as the co-founder and CEO of Globant[1], a digital transformation company, and the first Latin American software company to list on the New York Stock Exchange.[2]

Early life and education

Migoya was born and raised in La Plata, Argentina. As the son of an entrepreneur, Migoya had an early exposure to the business environment.[3] He studied electronic engineering at the public National University of La Plata,[4] and later pursued an MBA at University of CEMA[5] in Buenos Aires.

Career

Migoya began the early period of his career as a project manager at Argentina’s state oil company, YPF.[6] In 2001, his native Argentina suffered one of the worst economic crises of its history, involving political turmoil and a virtual meltdown of economic activity. In its aftermath, Migoya met with three of his friends - Guibert Englebienne, Néstor Nocetti and Martín Umaran - in a local pub and began discussing how to reinvent themselves and their careers in the face of such upheaval. At a time when businesses, entrepreneurs and foreign investors were leaving the country, they went against the sentiment of their community and mentors and decided to create a technology company based in Argentina that would sell software worldwide.[7][8][9]

Globant’s first client was British travel website lastminute.com, providing website management.[10] In its first year as a business, Globant made $3 million in revenue, surpassing Migoya's initial estimate of $500,000.[11] In 2006, Globant landed a contract with Google, making it the first company to design software for Google outside the Googleplex.[12]

On July 18, 2014, shares of Globant began trading on the New York Stock Exchange for $10.[13] Globant’s IPO marked the first Latin American software company ever to list on the NYSE.[14] The company has since grown in employees, revenue, profit,[15] as well as range of the services and platforms it offers to its clients, who have included the Walt Disney Company, Southwest Airlines,[16] Electronic Arts and the Coca-Cola Company.[17]

As one of the few Argentine entrepreneurs to lead a global company, he was recognized with a Konex Award in 2008 and a Platinum Konex Award in 2018.[18]

Other business interests

In addition to serving as Globant's chairman and CEO, Martín Migoya was also behind the founding of the coding school Digital House.[19] He serves on the board of the Endeavor Argentina,[20] a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, mentoring and funding start-up entrepreneurs in Argentina. Globant itself received investment from Endeavor Global during its pre-IPO growth,[21] and Endeavor co-founder Linda Rottenberg currently sits on Globant's board of directors.[22]

He has co-authored two books, "The Never-Ending Digital Journey" and "Embracing the Power of AI".[23]

Personal life

Martín is a lifelong musician and leads the band Sonic Diamonds.[24] He resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay.[25] He is married and has three sons.[26]
