Jordon Alexander is an Australian producer and Disc jockey|DJ based in London, UK[1][2]. He releases music as Mall Grab, under his own name, and as part of the formation Mystik Menn (alongside DJ Haus)[3]. Having a background in skateboarding[4] Alexanders stage name is a reference to the mocking term Skateboarding|skateboarders use for holding your skateboard by the truck instead of the deck (a mall grab), which is supposedly looked down upon[5][6]. His productions mainly fall within the House music|house and techno genres, and Alexander is known for being one of the leading figures in the Outsider house|lo-fi house genre that emerged in 2016[2].

Career

Alexander started making music in his teens[7]. His first release came in 2015[3] with the EP Feel U. One of the tracks on this EP was later covered by Korean-American artist Yaeji[8]. Apart from producing and performing in clubs, Alexander has been featured on outlets such as BBC|BBC's BBC Radio 1|Radio 1 Essential Mix[9] and Boiler Room (music broadcaster)|Boiler Room[10]. He has launched two record labels, Steel City Dance Discs (a reference to the steel industry in his home town of Newcastle, New South Wales|Newcastle[11]) in 2016, and Looking For Trouble in 2018[12].

Mall Grab is viewed as an influential artist in the Outsider house|lo-fi subgenre of house music (alongside artists like DJ Seinfeld, Ross from Friends|Ross From Friends, and DJ Boring)[13][14]. Despite Alexander himself and others have argued he has since evolved away from the genre[11] (and towards techno[15]), he has in the past been described as a 'poster boy'[2] for the genre and is being credited by Mixmag editor Harrison Williams as a 'catalyst in the styles ascent [...], a key player in the rise of the sub-genre'[13].

In 2020, Mall Grab was listed in the Alternative DJ Top 100 presented by DJ Mag and Beatport[16].
