Jeffery Walton (born October 19, 1992) better known by his stage name M.T.G. or Movin Towards Greatness,[1] is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer.[2][3] He is known for collaborations with fellow Chicago artist Tink “Other One” (2014), Tory Lanez “100” (2015), Dreezy “Lyin Eyes” (2020), and “Only Fans” (2021).[4][5]

Early life and education

M.T.G was born on October 19, 1992, on the southside of Chicago, Illinois.[6] He attended Hyde Park High school and developed his interest in music by being fascinated with playing drums alongside Ziggy Marley during a music class at school.

M.T.G had a tragic incident of losing a close friend in an accident, following which he took his nickname as his own and thus, led the emergence of his stage name Movin Towards Greatness or M.T.G.[7]

Career

M.T.G started his career in the music industry with the release of his first single titled “Other One”[8] with fellow Chicago artist Tink. Later in 2015, he released the single “100” in collaboration with Tory Lanez.[9]

During the covid 19 pandemic, M.T.G began playing with a microphone, and accidentally developed a freestyle track, which made him realize his skills as a writer and he decided to pick up his music career again. He gained massive popularity in the year 2021, with the release of his debut single “Only Fans”, named after the social media app. The song reached number 2 on the R&B[10] charts and went to number 34 on iTunes Top 100 songs of 2021.[11] Later in the same year, M.T.G released another single “Lyin Eyes”.

M.T.G has received immense recognition and following, both nationally and internationally, with significant collaborations including Papii Steez, Dreezy, Tory Lanez, Tink, Chika, No 1-Noah, Re’ Lxuise, Juicy J, and Rockie Fresh. M.T.G has amassed over 22.7K followers on his Instagram handle, where he regularly posts updates about his upcoming projects and personal life.[12]
