Lottie Dalziel (born June 1993) is an Australian entrepreneur, sustainability expert and environmental advocate known for her contributions to the field of sustainable living and her work in promoting eco-friendly products. Lottie is the founder of online retailer and sustainable company Banish[1].

Dalziel is known for her contributions to the sustainable living movement in Australia through her company Banish and it's recycling program BRAD[2], which tens of thousands of Australian households participate in[3]. She was named NSW Young Australian of the Year in 2023[4] and Forbes 30 under 30 for Asia-Pacific Social Impact[5].

Early Life and Education

Lottie Dalziel was born in 1993[6] in Brisbane.

She attended Somerville House in Brisbane for high school. She then went to Queensland University of Technology to study Media and Communications and Nutrition achieving a Bachelor Degree with Honours.

Career

Dalziel started her career working as a journalist for the ABC and Women's Health Magazine, which spurned her to focus her efforts on sustainability[7][8]. In 2018, Dalziel founded Banish, an organisation with a mission to educate and provide sustainable alternatives to consumers[2]. Dalziel begin to raise awareness about sustainable living and provide accessible solutions to consumers, with education being the main focus[9]. Banish has now helped over 300,000 Australians reduce their waste and meet their sustainability goals[10]. Banish achieved B Corp certification in 2022[11].

In 2020, Dalziel launched the BRAD (Banish Recycling and Disposal) program, allowing Australians an easy way to recycle household goods[9]. The BRAD program receives 1000 parcels a month from around Australia and volunteers sort through the recycling to send off to the appropriate recycling streams[9]. It has now sorted and recycled over 14 tons of plastic[3].

Dalziel created Australia's first sustainable hub at Central Station in Sydney, Australia[12]. It is home to interactive exhibits, a retail space, a recycling center and base of the nationwide the BRAD program[12][13].

Advocacy and Achievement

Throughout her career, Lottie Dalziel has been a vocal advocate for sustainability and waste reduction through consumer education[9].

Dalziel delivered a TEDx talk entitled 'The Power of Community in Fighting Climate Change' in 2020[14]. Dalziel was named as one of Australia's Top 50 People in E-Commerce in 2023[15]. Dalziel was 2021's Business NSW Sydney Metro Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Banish won overall Business of the Year[16][17].

In 2023 Dalziel was named NSW Young Australian of the Year[2][18].

Dalziel is a sustainability partner with Nespresso[19]. Dalziel is the Sustainability Editor of magazine Gritty Pretty[20].

Dalziel planted a tree for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Government House in 2023[21][22].

Personal Life

Outside of her career, Lottie Dalziel is known for her love of the ocean and is a regular swimmer and surfer[23] at her home in Bondi Beach[24]. She is an early waker, starting her days at 5am[25].

She is a member of the Bronte Surf Life Saving Club[26].
