Lo Chung Wan (t=盧仲雲|p=Lo Chung Wan; 1879 – 1965) was a prominent Hong Kong businessman and comprador for the Netherlands Trading Society, which eventually became ABN Amro.[1][2][3][4]
Early life, education, and business career
Born in Chungshan District, Wan was educated at Queen's College.[5] Upon completing his education, he was offered a position in that college as a member of the teaching staff.
At 25 years of age, he joined the Netherlands Trading Society, and eventually become its first Comprador. By the 1930's, Wan headed a department of 10 staff.[6]
Wan was a Director of the Yau Ma Tei Ferry[7], The Sun Co, Limited, Ngan How Motor Bus, The Kong On SS, the National Commercial & Savings Bank, and the Wing On Life Insurance Company, and was in the Committee of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce. He was also the Chairman of the Bank Compradores' Association of Hong Kong.
Public Service
Wan was on the Board of Directors for the Tung Wah Hospital Group and the Po Leung Kok. He also served as the Postal Censor of the Hong Kong government. He was also appointed a Justice of the Peace.[8]
He has scholarships at the University of Hong Kong[9][10][11] and Queens College, to this day.
Honours
In recognition of his great public services to the Trading Society, Wan was created a Order of Orange Nassau Officer Class by the Consular for the Netherlands in 1937.
