Willie James Ray III (born October 9, 1991), professionally known as Lil Will, is an African-American music artist, entrepreneur, and music producer from Centreville, Illinois.[1] He has established himself as a renowned rapper, songwriter, producer, audio engineer, and videographer. Throughout his career, Lil Will has exhibited his musical versatility, releasing 20 mixtapes, six albums, and two EPs. With an extensive discography and over 400 released songs, he has collaborated with artists like Kevo, Echo, Timo, and 2Cupz, showcasing his collaborative spirit and talent.[2]
Additionally, Lil Will is the Founder and CEO of Dream Team Empire, an apparel and accessories brand.[3]
Early life and education
Lil Will, born on October 9, 1991, was raised in Cahokia, Illinois. He received his early education at Lalumier Elementary School and Penniman Elementary School, where his passion for music began to take shape. He continued his academic journey at Wirth/Parks Middle School and later graduated from Cahokia High School.
After high school, Lil Will enrolled at Southwestern Illinois College. Subsequently, he earned a bachelor’s degree in audio production at Full Sail University, graduating in 2021.
Career
Lil Will embarked on his music career, releasing his debut EP, "The World Is Mines," on October 9, 2016. The album garnered significant attention in his city and surrounding states due to the success of hit singles such as "Heaven or Hell" and "Day 1s," featuring Kevo.[4]
Following his initial success, Lil Will released the album "Free World," featuring the popular single "Choices" with Echo as the guest artist and production from Dj Radiohead Beats and Hurricane Beatz (HMG).
On January 1, 2019, Lil Will released his second album, "Eskimo Lifestyle," which featured collaborations with Timo and Kevo and production contributions from G-Money, Luh Charlez, and Hurricane Beatz (HMG).
Continuing his streak, Lil Will released his third album, "I Am," on October 9, 2019. The album showcased his versatility, with multiple producers contributing, including DayToDay on the Track and a featured appearance from Og Papi.
On June 18, 2020, Lil Will released his fourth album, "Born To Hustle."
On July 4, 2021, Lil Will released his fifth album, "Recreated." The album featured two notable song collaborations, one with Echo and another with Timo. The album features 18 songs and is produced by Speed on the Track.[5]
On March 3, 2023, Lil Will achieved a notable milestone with his sixth album, "Prod By Lil Will," producing every instrumental himself. The album consists of 20 songs and includes collaborations with several artists, including his daughter, Rayinna Ray, and son, Willie James Ray IV. The album's widespread popularity and global recognition have positioned it as Lil Will's most successful project to date.
In 2020, Lil Will established Dream Team Empire, a fashion brand offering a range of clothing, including shirts, hats, beanies, shorts, pants, joggers, sweaters, long sleeves, jackets, hoodies, and accessories. With a focus on empowering self-expression and embracing inclusivity, Dream Team Empire has become a prominent player in the fashion industry, reflecting Lil Will's unique artistic vision and commitment to creativity.
Personal life
Lil Will resides in Greater St. Louis, Illinois. He is married to Marquette Lakosha Mcgee, and the couple has two children: daughter Rayinna Racquel Ray and son Willie James Ray IV.
