Lester Ralph (1876 or 1877 - 1927) was an artist. He illustrated several publications. He was the son of author and journalist Julian Ralph.[1] and painted war scenes[2] of the Turko-Greek and Anglo-Boer wars. His classic Girl Scout poster is part of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library collection.[3] The face from the poster was also used for Girl Scout pins.[4]

He and W. B. Wollen designed special menu cards for a dinner of dignitaries.[5] He illustrated his father's account "In the Wake of the War" from the Turkish side of the war with Greece.[6]

He also covered the Anglo-Boer War.[7][8] He survived typhoid.[9]

He did illustrate Mark Twain's "Eve's Diary" in Harper's.[10][11] When the Worcester library expelled the book to due to nude depictions by Ralph, Twain commented amusedly on the irony of making the bible.freely available.[12]

He illustrated stories in Scribner's'[13] and Colliers.[14]

He illustrated Owen Wister's novel Lady Baltimore.[15]

His illustrations of people dancing featured on postcards.[16]

He illustrated a Walk-Over shoe company catalogue in 1916.[17]

He married war correspondent Elsie Reasoner who became a model and sculptor.[18][19] In 1913 she died of phlebitis in Lloyd, Florida.and was.buried at the Ralph.family.plot in New Jersey.[20] He died of appendicitis at age 48.[21]

He was one of the artists whose illustrations were included in the gift book A Book of Sweethearts marketed as having each picture a "climax of charm and color".[22]
