Lana Rhoades, born Amara Maple,[1] is an American pornographic actress and vlogger from Chicago, Illinois.[2] Throughout her career she has appeared in publications such as Hustler, Penthouse, and Playboy.[3] She attracted mainstream attention in 2017 after winning the title for "Hottest Newcomer" at the 34th AVN Awards.[4]

Early life

Rhoades was born in McHenry, Illinois to a religious household. She knew she wanted to become an adult actress when she was 12 years old.[5] At an early age she began using drugs, which culminated in a year spent in prison.[6] She graduated early from high school at age 17 where she was part of gymnastics and cheerleading teams. She then moved close to Chicago a few months before turning 18 to work as a waitress at a Tilted Kilt pub.[7]

Career

After working as a waitress, Rhoades went into stripping.[5] This lead to her beginning her professional adult film career in 2016, when she was 19 years old.[8] In August 2016, she was Penthouse Pet of the Month.[9] She left the professional industry by late 2017.[1] During her tenure, she recorded over 250 adult films.[10] In 2017, Rhoades publicly accused director Pierre Woodman of coercing her into performing acts she did not want to during a shoot, and that he allegedly admitted to her to violating another woman's rights.[11] That year, she won "Best New Starlet" at the 15th XBIZ Awards,[12], was fan-voted "Best New Starlet" at the 25th NightMoves Awards,[13] and was fan-voted the "Hottest Newcomer" at the 34th AVN Awards.[4]

Rhoades continued to self-publish videos with her partner.[14] In 2018, she won the AVN award for the "Best Anal Sex Scene"[15] and was fan voted "Best Body" at the 26th NightMoves Awards.[16] In 2019, Rhoades was the most searched pornstar on Pornhub, garnering 345 million views.[17][18] As a result, she won won the 2019 Pornhub Award for Most Popular Female Performer.[19][20] She was granted the award again in 2020.[21][22]

In 2020, Rhoades was hired by Brazzers as an official creative collaborator.[23] She co-starred with Adria Rae on the cover of the October 2020 issue of Hustler.[24][25] In November of 2020, Ellen von Unwerth directed her photoshoot for the cover of Playboy.[26] She continues to model on Instagram and OnlyFans.[27]
