Alexander Tang, popularly known as LEADR is an American singer, songwriter, and producer best known for their songs Gaia, 11:11, Waves[1] and Hi, I’m Human.[2][3][4][5] LEADR is regarded as one of the fastest-growing musical artists in America and has gained recognition for imbibing a unique visual spectacle with signature pointed ears, acrylic nails, and recycled fashionable clothes.

LEADR is an indie-pop artist, who is highly acclaimed for their blend of synth-pop, electronic,[6] indie dance, and futurist elements in their songs. They have performed at The Resident, The Peppermint Club, The Mint, and The Study and have even opened for UK pop artist Bright Light Bright Light at The Satellite.

LEADR is also known for their firm advocacy for the LGBTQIA+[7] and at-risk youth community. They have been featured in several media outlets including Billboard, Atwood Magazine,[8][9] MTV,[10] Thread,[11][12] Naluda Magazine,[13] The New Nine,[14][15] The 360 Magazine,[16] Unclear Magazine,[17][18] and others.[19][20]

Early life and education

LEADR was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in New Jersey. They were raised in the 90’s to traditional Vietnamese parents and faced prejudice concerning their sexuality and them being queer.[21]

While growing up, LEADR was greatly influenced by Grimes, BTS, Billie Eilish, James Blake, Troye Sivan, and Lana Del Rey’s music and found solace in music.

Career

LEADR started their career as a music artist in 2018 with the release of their debut song Waves[22] which acquired great public reception. With the rising popularity of this song, LEADR emerged as one of the leading indie music artists in the country, and their song was even selected by the Starbucks Corporation to play at their locations worldwide.[23][24]

In the same year, they released 11:11,[25] their second song, for which LEADR garnered acclaim from the likes of BILLBOARD,[26][27][28] Vogue, Dancing Astronaut,[29] and several other media outlets.[30]

In March of 2020, LEADR, apart from releasing other songs, also led a group of artists to cover John Lennon’s “Imagine” which they shared on Facebook. This cover was highly appreciated by the likes of Yoko Ono, The Beatles, and John Lennon and was even shared on their Twitter accounts.

In May 2021, LEADR covered "Slow Burn" by Kacey Musgraves and it was shared by her on Instagram.

LEADR has been on multiple editorial playlists on Spotify.[31][32] SPOTIFY’s Out Now & AAPI Pride (Hi, I'm Human), Fresh Finds: Indie (for “3am”)[33] and Sagittarius Cosmic (for “Gaia”) playlists.[34]
