Kottapurath Vinod (Born Dec 20th 1958)is a chef, entrepreneur, restaurateur and participant in Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay. He is based in the Washington DC Metro area.

Early life and education

Vinod was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in India to K.K.Narayanan (Kottapurath Kunjimaman Narayanan) a World War Veteran and C.A. Pushpavathy(Chilli Katti Ayyappan Pushpavathy). K.N.Vinod studied at the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and got his Diploma in Hotel Management & Applied Nutrition. He took courses at the Culinary Institute of America.

Career

Chef Kottapurath 'K.N' Vinod worked for the Hotel Ashok in New Delhi, India and cooked for several world leaders during his time in He migrated to the US and Kottapurath Vinod started his first restaurant Bombay Bistro, Rockville in 1992 and celebrated the 25th anniversary in 2017[1]

Chef Kottapurath Vinod started his second restaurant Indique in 2002 - combining traditional indian recipes with unique local ingredients.[2]

Television shows

Participated in the Food Network TV Show - Beat Bobby Flay[3] [4] Chef Vinod was selected among the top 10 contestants of the National Sous-vide contest. [5]

Recipes

Vinod has introduced the DC area restaurant goers to South Indian cuisines from his hometown of Kerela[6]

Philanthropy

Vinod is a member of the Board of Directors of DC Central Kitchen[12]Vinod participated in the Capital Food Fight as part of the fund raising activities for the DC Central Kitchen,[13]. Chef Vinod raised awareness for the Farm to Table using local ingredients [14] In 2017 , Chef Kottapurath Vinod joined Chef Jose Andres and the World Central Kitched fight hunger in Haiti [15]

Continuing the Tradition

K.N/Vinod's son Rahul Vinod opened a new chain of Fast casual Indian restaurants called Rasa.[16]
